Exciting stayer Senor Toba has been sold to Hong Kong
Champion trainer Chris Waller, who is so often the beneficiary when good horses move stables, has one heading out of the door this time after it was confirmed that Senor Toba, who finished second to Kukeracha in the Group 1 Queensland Derby, will be heading to Hong Kong to join the powerful Caspar Fownes’ stable.
Senor Toba has won two of his six career starts including the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate over 2000m at Randwick.
The son of Toronado was also placed (third) in the Group 3 Rough Habit before his fine effort in the Queensland Derby.
The expectation is that Fownes will set the target of the Hong Kong Derby for his latest stable acquisition. Fownes knows what it takes to win the Hong Kong Derby having already saddled two winners of the prestigious feature race.
The route that is likely to ne mapped out for Senor Toba has been travelled before, most notably by Werther who went on to be an absolute star for John Moore in Hong Kong, winning both the Hong Kong Derby and the QE 11 in a run of results that saw him crowned Horse of The Year in 2016.
