What the jockeys said after the running of the Group One $3 million Caulfield Cup on Saturday.

Zac Purton (Admire Rakti) 1st: “You only had to look at his run in the Japan Cup to know that he was going to be hard to beat today. I was able to get a lovely run in the race. Three-wide with a bit of cover, Japanese horses love that.”

James McDonald (Rising Romance) 2nd: “She definitely stood up today. As you can see, she’s a stayer of the future.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Lucia Valentina) 3rd: “Very game in defeat. At the 1000 (metres) I was happy enough when they began to stroll along a bit. I elected to get out and get going thinking that Zac’s horse (Admire Rakti) might take a bit of winding then Zac pushed me fairly wide on the bend so we covered extra ground. She still hit the line strongly but the winner was just a bit too sharp inside that last furlong and a half.”

Luke Nolen (Brambles) 4th: “He’s a bloody marvel. He’s run well this bloke.”

Craig Williams (Araldo) 5th: “He ran fantastic. It was a really slowly run race. I got a nice run through them over the back and he closed off well. He’ll be looking forward to the two miles at Flemington.”

Ben Melham (Lidari) 6th: “He had his chance. He got out at the 600 (metres) and I thought with no weight on his back, he’d dash a bit better.”

Douglas Whyte (Junoob) 7th: “He ran terrific. He got on the wrong leg on the corner which slowed his momentum down. He found the line terrifically. On a bigger, more dour track, he”d be very effective.”

Damien Oliver (Hawkspur) 8th: “He was brave. He got beaten about two or three lengths but that is where he’s at.”

Chad Schofield (Green Moon) 9th: “Muddling-run race. He got cluttered on the fence for the last 600 (metres) but I’m excited to be on him going forward.”

Corey Brown (Big Memory) 10th : “The speed was just ridiculous, way too slow. But he actually ran a good race and came home nicely.”

Tommy Berry (The Offer) 11th: “He got back in a slowly run race but he had to be there because he drew so wide. He got to the line nice enough.”

Dwayne Dunn (Stipulate) 12th: “He ran OK, the tempo was just so slow.”

Glen Boss (Who Shot Thebarman) 13th: “He got into a good spot but he just can’t corner this horse. He couldn’t corner at Flemington so he didn’t corner here very well.”

Michael Rodd (Moriarty) 14th: “Just didn’t go with them.”

Craig Newitt (Seismos) 15th: “He just didn’t have the tactical speed to hold them out early when they crossed. They all pulled up and went even time then dashed home It just didn’t suit him but he ran OK.”

Regan Bayliss (Renew) 16th: “He took a while to get into his rhythm and to travel in the race. He was always off the bridle and worked to the line alright. He wasn’t too bad.”

Stephen Baster (Unchain My Heart) 17th: “They sat and sprinted. It didn’t suit him.”

Steven Arnold (Sea Moon) 18th: “He didn’t quite finish off. He built into the race well but he didn’t respond when I went to 100 per cent.”
