The disappointing run by G1 winning Sydney stayer Sir John Hawkwood in the Caulfield Cup has not prompted trainer John Thompson to second guess the gallopers Melbourne Cup chances.
Sir John Hawkwood finished a disappointing 10th in Saturday’s Caulfield Cup after jumping at $13 in markets with trainer John Thompson saying the race did not pan out for him after he was shuffled back in the field and that he races better on the speed.
Prior to his run in the Caulfield Cup the Sydney stayer won the G1 Metropolitan impressively which saw him be well backed in the 2400m handicap.
Sir John Hawkwood is guaranteed a start in the Melbourne Cup Field and is currently a $34 shot in betting.
John Thompson said C Cup didn’t pan out for Sir John Hawkwood.”Got shuffled right back and he is better up near the front”. M-Cup bound
