Burning Front has passed the $1million mark in earnings

Burning Front looked a stand-out on ratings in the VOBIS Gold Mile and that is the way it has turned out in the $250,000 race at Caulfield.

The Darren Weir-trained gelding has become a pin-up horse for the VOBIS Gold scheme in Victoria and Saturday’s victory took his overall career earnings to $1.084 million with his 17th win from 47 starts.

He also overtook former stablemate Trust In A Gust as the highest-earning VOBIS (Victorian Owners and Breeders Incentive Scheme) horse.

Burning Front had a rating at least 16 points higher than his nearest rival in Saturday’s 1600m race but met his opposition under set-weights conditions.

Jockey Brad Rawiller was able to control the race from the front on Burning Front and the $1.60 Luxbet.com favourite never looked in danger, beating Bel Burgess ($20) by 1-1/2 lengths with a nose to Mr Individual ($19) third.

“He’s a great horse, isn’t he?” Weir said.

“He makes his own luck, races up on the speed, and he’s been an absolute ripper for the connections and a great advertisement for VOBIS and VOBIS Gold with the money that you can win.”

Weir said Saturday’s lucrative race, restricted to horses nominated to the VOBIS Gold series in Victoria, had been an obvious target for Burning Front.

“The preparation was heading towards this all along and that’s why we had to run him in the Golden Mile at Bendigo, to get him right for this race,” Weir said.

Rawiller said Burning Front just went too keenly in front in the Listed Golden Mile when he was swamped late under 60.5kg to finish fourth.

Saturday’s win was Burning Front’s sixth from his past seven starts.

“What more can you say, he just keeps doing it,” Rawiller said.

“Today he was always going to be hard to run down when he got it comfortable in front.”
