Top jockey Corey Brown will miss the Doncaster Mile meeting at Randwick after being suspended for careless riding at Canterbury on Friday.

Brown was outed for causing interference to the Jim Cassidy-ridden Lord Of The Spur rounding the home turn in an 1100 metre maiden aboard Coventry.

The high-profile hoop was given a six-meeting suspension.

Brown elected to start his ban straight after Saturday’s Australian Derby day meeting at Randwick which means he will miss the Doncaster meeting the following Saturday.

He will be free to resume riding in time for Sydney Cup Day on April 28 when he is set to partner Rangirangdoo in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Permit in the Sydney Cup.

Brown admitted to shifting out on Coventry but argued his actions were not careless.

He said it was disappointing to be on the sidelines for one of the autumn carnival’s big days.

“It’s a pain in the backside,” Brown said.

“You’re just getting wound up for the carnival and in the middle of it all this happens. It’s a downer but at least I’m back for the Sydney Cup day.”
