Hugh Bowman’s spring carnival aspirations could hinge on the outcome of a reconvened stewards inquiry into an incident in the Group One Epsom Handicap.
Bowman won the race on the Chris Waller-trained Winx who picked herself up to score after a scrimmage on the home turn.
The interference came under scrutiny from stewards who were concerned Bowman appeared to lift his left elbow and make contact with Blake Shinn aboard Kirramosa.
Chief steward Ray Murrihy described it as a “nasty incident” before adjourning the race-day inquiry to allow time for images of the alleged contact to be enhanced for better clarity.
Any penalty would sour what has been an outstanding start to the spring for the top jockey who fronts stewards again on Thursday.
A day after his Epsom win on Winx, Bowman plundered the Group One Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on Victoria Derby winner Preferment.
He has another strong book of rides in Melbourne on Saturday headed by Press Statement in the Caulfield Guineas and Pasadena Girl in the Thousand Guineas.
