Racing Victoria chief steward Terry Bailey has confirmed the betting account of the partner of suspended jockey Danny Nikolic is being investigated in relation to the Baron Archer inquiry.
Racing Victoria stewards launched an investigation after a large volume of bets were matched against the Jason Warren-trained Baron Archer to lose a race at Echuca on March 8.
Nikolic’s partner Tania Hyett has been interviewed about the matter with Bailey saying his team is looking into how Hyett’s account was being funded and operated.
“The inquiry is ongoing as there is quite a bit in it that we need to work through,” Bailey said.
Stewards on the day had no issues with jockey Ben Melham’s ride on Baron Archer.
However, Bailey said stewards were concerned the Warren stable had not notified them that the gelding had undergone surgery prior to the Echuca run, a line of inquiry that is continuing.
