Sydney filly Ballet Suite put a rushed week behind her to enhance her Queensland Oaks prospects with a strong win at Doomben on Saturday.
Starting favourite, Ballet Suite ($2.80) made a sweeping run around the field and joined the lead at the 250m before beating Bohemian Suite ($3.70) by a neck in the Listed Princess Stakes.
Zazarli ($13) completed a trifecta for Sydney fillies when a length back in third place.
Trainer Chris Waller is undecided whether Ballet Suite will run in the Doomben Roses in two weeks or go straight into the Oaks on May 30.
“It isn’t rocket science. When you have a good horse it is a matter of keeping them sharp,” Waller said.
“She is near the end of her campaign and I don’t want to go one race too far.”
Ballet Suite was a well-beaten eighth in the ATC Oaks on April 11 but Waller warned little could be taken from that run.
“All it showed was she couldn’t handle a really heavy track,” he said.
Waller said Ballet Suite had done well to win because she had a busy week getting to Brisbane.
“She hadn’t raced for a month and we had to give her a trial on Tuesday. Then she had the trip up here arriving on Thursday,” Waller said.
Winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy said he had had made a long run on the filly because he didn’t want to get left flat-footed when the field sprinted.
