The Lloyd Williams owned/Robert Hickmott trained Assign has done all he could to gain a start in the 2016 Melbourne Cup after gallantly taking out today’s Herbert Power Stakes, now it is up to handicapper Greg Carpenter.
Assign led throughout and held off late attempts from Big Memory and Pemberly in an attempt to book a spot in the Melbourne Cup field.
The team will have at least one runner in the Melbourne Cup with Almandin winning The Bart Cummings last weekend.
Assign sits at 32nd in the order of entry and will need a 2.5kg penalty to be assured a spot in the Cup field.
