Impressive debut winner Ariaz will head to Adelaide chasing black-type instead of racing at Caulfield for a bigger purse.
Trainer Robbie Griffiths said running Ariaz run in the Group Three Breeders’ Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday was made with her long-term future in mind.
Ariaz was sharing favouritism for the Vale Phil Sly VOBIS Gold Ingot at Caulfield on Saturday, but is a pronounced $2.60 popular elect in Adelaide.
“With her being a broodmare of the future and Gerry Ryan’s a breeder who also owns the mother, it makes a lot of sense to try and run fourth or better over there (in Adelaide),” Griffiths said.
“Two-year-olds have got to hold together but she seems to be really well in training and based on the strength of her win and the way she won you would think she would handle the extra 200 metres.”
Ariaz made a debut winning over 1000m at Sandown on March 28 where she came from the back of the field to account for the promising Robert Smerdon-trained Motown Lil.
Griffiths said if Ariaz could enhance her breeding page, he favoured sending the filly for a break to have ready to go early in the new season.
“Those sprint races for the fillies come up early in the spring because it’s all about stretching out in distance,” he said.
