Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) Stewards last night suspended a Toowoomba racing participant after he assaulted a local apprentice jockey.
QRIC Commissioner Ross Barnett said the assault occurred at Toowoomba’s Clifford Park track on 29 May and an Integrity Investigations Team (IIT) investigation was carried out into the incident.
“A Stewards Inquiry was convened and track work rider Dale Groves pleaded guilty and was convicted of improper conduct. He was suspended for four weeks and fined $500,” Mr Barnett said.
“In this circumstance the apprentice jockey was not seriously injured, however racing participants must have every confidence they can carry out their work without the threat of violence.”
