Last year’s Melbourne Cup winner Americain will arrive in Australia on Saturday to continue his preparation for this year’s $6.2 million race.
The French-trained super stayer headlines a pack of 10 international gallopers scheduled to arrive in Melbourne from Europe.
Among the international contingent will be German stayer Illo who has joined the team of 12-time Cup winner Bart Cummings.
Fellow German import Lucas Cranach who has been well supported in early betting for the Melbourne Cup will be trained by Anthony Freedman.
Americain took out the Geelong Cup last year before moving on to dominate the Melbourne Cup.
Trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre has also kept the stayer in the entries for the $3 million Cox Plate and the $2.64 million Caulfield Cup next month.
Bauer, runner-up in the 2008 Melbourne Cup, will be one of four Luca Cumani-trained stayers arriving.
Other contestants touching down for the Victorian spring carnival include British stablemates Moyenne Corniche and Saptapadi, and French-trained Dunaden.
The Cup hopefuls will reside at the Werribee quarantine centre in Victoria.
