Jake Stephens trained ‘Alcopop’ is the new favourite to win Saturday’s 2010 Caulfield Cup over 2400m, Alcopop has been listed at the top of the market after his impressive run in Saturday’s Yalumba Stakes behind So You Think. Last week punters could have gotten last years Melbourne Cup favourite at $41 to win the $2.5 million event.
Alcopop hasn’t received much limelight since last years Melbourne Cup preparation when he unexpectedly won the JRA Cup at Moonee Valley which secured his spot in the 2009 Melbourne Cup. He then backed the win up with another very impressive win in the Herbert Power stakes beating home the eventual Melbourne Cup winner ‘Shocking’.

Alcopop started favourite for Australia’s biggest race but could only manage to finish 6th, he returned this year in the Apollo Stakes at Rosehill where he was disappointing finishing 12th and had another disappointing finish in the Ranvet Stakes where he was last to finish.
His return to Melbourne saw him try to win back to back JRA Cups but could only manage to finish 5th beaten 3 lengths, Alcopop thus drifted in all markets including the 2010 Caulfield Cup and 2010 Melbourne Cup until his run on Saturday in which he ran on strongly over 2000m in the Yalumba Stakes to finish 2nd behind So You Think.
