Striking grey Albumin appears to have found his niche, scoring his second win from as many starts this campaign at Rosehill.
Having been previously tried up to 1400m, the Gerald Ryan-trained Albumin backed up his 1100m victory two weeks ago with another on Saturday to boost his record to four wins, all at the distance.
Stablemate Tango Rain ($11) was always prominent, with $5.50 favourite Albumin worse than midfield.
Tango Rain looked to have pinched a winning break close to home but Albumin gathered momentum to beat him by half a length.
The two had the finish to themselves, with Malahat ($10) another 2-1/4 lengths behind the runner-up.
“He is a second-level carnival horse,” Ryan’s son and foreman Blake Ryan said.
“He’s got his confidence up now and who knows where he could end up.
“We’ve worked him out now and he’s better at the shorter distances.
“And he’s had a couple of 10 out of 10 rides from Jay Ford.”
Ford said he was even more impressed with Albumin than when he rode him two weeks ago.
“I have only been on him this preparation for his two runs and two dominant wins, ” he said.
“He has been competitive at stakes level in the past and it wouldn’t surprise me if he can win one.
“He was really good today and I really liked the way he savaged the line.”
