Noel Doyle has confirmed Group One plans for Aimee, a filly he says could be one of the best he has trained.

The filly gave him his third win in the Ken Russell Memorial Handicap (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday when she overhauled Sagatona in the final metres to beat her rival by a head on the heavy ground.

Doyle will now set Aimee for the Brisbane feature two-year-old double of the Group Two BRC Sires’ Produce (1350m) on May 24 and the Group One J J Atkins Stakes (1600m) on June 8.

However, the route she will take is up in the air.

“I can’t really make up my mind for a few days until I see how she pulls up but at this stage I will probably go straight into the Sires,” Doyle said.

It was Aimee’s fourth win in a row and as far Doyle was concerned her best.

“It was a really big win today,” he said. “I don’t know if she was comfortable on the wet track but her big heart got her there.”

Doyle, who won the Russell with Le Val (2013) and Palidamah (2001), has trained many good horses including Group One stars Kinjite and Stylish Century.

“After today I reckon she is getting to the stage where she isn’t far off them,” he said.

Jockey Jason Taylor agreed it was a great win and said Aimee had taken a little bit of time to wind up which indicated she was looking for further.

Sagatona’s trainer Liam Birchley will press on to the feature double but is worried Sagatona may not have enough prize money.

“We will have to see how things pan out before we decide her next start,” Birchley said.

Sagatona’s jockey Damien Browne said the filly’s run was outstanding because she was trapped on the worst part of the track from the inside alley.

Earlier, promising three-year-old Sir Moments earned himself a crack at the Group Two Queensland Guineas (1400m) with his comeback win in the Kerrison Hcp (1200m) on Saturday.

Trainer Steve O’Dea gave Sir Moments a long spell after the gelding failed at Randwick in the Crowley Stakes last October.

“He has really matured in the break and is far stronger now,” O’Dea said.”
