Mother nature turned ugly for Randwick and Doncaster Day on Saturday with a severe downpour reducing the famous track to a bog surface. Some handled it well, like Sacred Choice in the Doncaster, while some struggled such as Sea Lord in the South Pacific Classic.

Tim Clark recorded a Group One double on Sacred Choice in the Doncaster and backing up 40 minutes later to take out The Galaxy with Atomic Force to give the very good trainer Darren Smith his first Group One victory.

The winner Darci Be Good ploughed through the conditions well to record a top win. Trainer Bede Murray knows when he has a handy horse and he reckons we’ll be seeing this horse in the ATC Derby next season. Interesting to watch her develop over time.

Satirical Boy was given a lovely run by Nash but he flopped badly in the straight and finished second last, 12 lengths away from the winner. The track conditions might have been against him but he did stop quickly.

Exceed And Exalt raced too close to the speed and didn’t finish it off like we know he can. Needs to be ridden cold to show his best and that didn’t eventuate. I wouldn’t sell him short for the future.

I think the first four over the line should be followed. Streama looks as if she is going to be a very good three-year-old, while Charm’s Honour looks well above average and fought hard to the line and again Houston Benefactoir had no luck when finishing third. Nearly should have won the race. Aerobatics was four wide throughout and ran on ok at the end. She is looking for the paddock

Saramenha was specked in the betting and after controlling the speed, she didn’t find much in the straight. Looked like a handy filly when she was racing in the Summer but she has been a big flop ever since.

FORGIVE: Swerte Bella didn’t look comfortable in the going and was well beaten. She wasn’t beaten far and looks a horse with some promise.

Levi’s Choice should be winning races when he travels to Queensland for the Winter Carnival. Great run here and if he strikes a wet track in Brissy, get in the queue.

Wouldn’t say there was any to put a pen through. Five of them were right in the finish, while the other two were either outclassed or didn’t handle the bog track.

Sea Lord is a much better horse than that. Wait for him on a dry track and when he is fresh because he is very talented with the right conditions.

If the rain persists, Hawk Island will be very hard to hold out in the Sydney Cup. Superb effort to carry 61kg here and win.

Herculian Prince. He has been a flopperooni this prep and something is not right. He is better than that but for the moment, steer away from him.

New Day Rising is a duffer on a wet track and shouldn’t be dismissed. He is another that will race better on top of the ground.

Shamrocker is going to be so hard to beat in the Spring. Great ride by Bossy but she didnt accelerate in the ground but still finished a gallant second. I’d back her now for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups. But then again, three-year-old fillies in recent times haven’t gone on with it as they got older.

Placement in this grade. She isn’t up to these and needs to go to the bush to get a confidence boost by braking her maiden status.

Brazilian Pulse is a much better filly than that. She was a victim of the surface and also look out for her in the Spring.

From the future, definitely Ilovethiscity. Looked the winner for a moment but the track got to him late. Look for him to claim the Epsom Handicap in the Spring.

There a few to put a line through for the future: Dao Dao, Centennial Park, Wall Street, Captain Sonador and Brilliant Light. All of these are past their best and/or are struggling to recapture their form.

More Joyous looked awful in the yard and straight away. Her condition sounded the alarm bells for the paddock. She never looked likely on a heavy track carrying that weight and finished accordingly. Look for her to bounce back in the Spring.

Thankgodyourehere will be winning a Group One in the not too distant future. Great return by him and he looks ready for a big campaign.

Solar Charged should be put in the redbook now. Too costly for punters and is not racing well enough to trouble the good sprinters, or even the B grade sprinters.

Ortensia is another that struggled on the heavy track but she worked home ok. Not sure if she is heading to Brissy or not but if she is, she’ll be competitive.
