Dances On Stars will carry 59kg in his attempt to give trainer Gerald Ryan a second straight Chester Manifold Stakes win at Flemington.
The Sydney trainer prepared Red Excitement to win the 1400m Listed race a year ago and Dances On Stars looms as one of the chances for Saturday’s race which has attracted 15 nominations.
Import Lord Van Percy heads the weights with 60kg.
Now in the care of premier Victorian trainer Darren Weir, Lord Van Percy has not raced since the 2014 Herbert Power Stakes when trained by Andrew Balding.
Leon and Troy Corstens have last year’s runner-up Tried And Tired and six-year-old General Groove with the two to carry 58.5kg and 55kg respectively.
The richest race on the Flemington card is the $250,000 Inglis Dash (1100m) for three-year-olds, restricted to horses nominated to the Inglis Race Series.
Dual stakes winner Gold Symphony and last-start VOBIS Gold Carat winner Rocky Boomboa both have 58kg under the set weights plus penalties conditions.
The two-year-old Plate over 1100m has attracted 20 nominations while the Weir-trained Signoff and Lidari headline nominations for the 2000m handicap.
Signoff and Lidari finished first and second respectively in the Listed Lord Stakes (1700m) at Caulfield on Boxing Day.
