Winx wins an unprecedented fourth Cox Plate at Moonee Valley

Winx is arguably Australia’s best ever racehorse and is currently ranked the best racehorse in the world by Time Form Ratings.

Winx is by Street Cry out of mare Vegas Showgirl and was sold through the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast sale for $230,000 to owners Magic Bloodstock Racing, R G Treweeke and D N Kepitis.

She is trained by leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller with Hugh Bowman being her regular jockey, she was breed by Fairway Thoroughbreds foaling date being on 14th September 2011.

• Winx’s name is inspired by the 1970s and 80s Vegas burlesque shows when the men in the front row would wink at the exotic dancers.
• Her first race was a Wednesday maiden at Warwick Farm over 1100M on the 4th of June, 2014. Jason Collett, apprentice to Chris Waller at the time, rode her to a 0.8L victory.
• The mighty mare is currently on a long winning streak, but she has been beaten six times in her 42 career starts.
• Winx’s first loss came at her fourth start. A Group 2 race over 1400M at Randwick on the 20th of September, 2014. She was beaten by $19 hope First Seal by 0.8L.
• Jockeys that have lost on Winx. Jason Collett (3), Hugh Bowman (1), Tommy Berry (1), João Moreira (1).
• João Moreira is the only jockey to have ridden Winx but not win on her.
• Winx’s largest winning margin (8L) came when she stormed home to win her second Cox Plate in 2016.
• Winx is unbeaten in Victoria and Queensland with all of her loses being in NSW.
• The last horse to beat Winx was Gust of Wind.
• Winx’s famous colours belong to part-owner Peter Tighe and the ‘M’ stands for his Magic Bloodstock Racing ownership name.
• Winx has beaten 78 different Group One winners in her career.

• Winx was born at John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds farm in the Hunter Valley on September 14, 2011.

• Since Winx’s last defeat, she has won 32 in a row by a collective of 88.35 lengths.

2015:

Winx ($4.60) beat Criterion by 4-3/4 lengths with Highland Reel another three-quarters of a length away third

2016:

Winx ($1.80) powered away from Hartnell in an eight-length win, with Yankee Rose third

2017:

Winx ($1.18) held off Humidor to win by a long neck. Folkswood was 4-1/4 lengths away third.

2018:

Winx ($1.24) ran to the front at the 200m to beat Benbatl by two lengths. Humidor was 2-3/4 lengths away third.
