There were some bizarre scenes in France overnight with a winning jockey being bitten mid-race by a rival horse.
In an effort to win the Joubert Listed Stakes at Maisons-Laffitte, race favourite Palomba channeled her inner Mike Tyson and bit rival jockey Francois-Xavier Bertras.
Bertras was unscathed after being bitten and remarkably went on to win the race.
Speaking to the Racing Post post-race Bertras said he didn’t understand what had happened.
“It was a pretty strange sensation because the filly came alongside and then ducked her head at me while in full flight. It was quite amazing.” Bertras said.
“We watched the race back with the stewards and you can see she has me by the arm three times – it was pretty funny to see.”
“My filly didn’t flinch or break stride but she was quite surprised and didn’t understand exactly what had happened. You could say we were as shocked as each other.”
