How Bloody Good is Ric McIntosh

Plenty of big names are flocking to Warrnambool today as day 1 of the three day carnival kicks off.

The Brierly, run over 3450m and worth $150k highlights the racing card which features runners from all the top stables.

On day 3, the main feature of the carnival, the $350,000 Grand Annual Steeplechase over the punishing 5500m is run and will feature the biggest name in the sport down here, ZED EM.

BUT… the most popular name in this part of the world is Ric McIntosh, the race caller.

Two years ago I mentioned in a story that we should get a Go Fund Me page up so we could send him to England for the Grand National Carnival at Aintree. That way the world could hear and enjoy, like we do, his calls of jumps racing.

I should have put more energy into it because nothing came of it. After these next three days, if he still has a voice left, we should look into it further.

He is the sound of The Bool.

And he is without peer when it comes to jumps race commentary.

There is no doubt, at some stage today and probably over all three days, we will hear his signature catch cry, “How bloody good is The Bool.”

Let’s hope so.
