Apprentice Sam Clipperton was taken to hospital for scans late on Saturday afternoon after a nasty fall in a race at Rosehill.
The 17-year-old came down in the straight aboard Izababe during the Echo Entertainment Group Handicap (1500m), and after being attended to by ambulance officers on the track was taken to hospital in a conscious condition but with pain in his back and neck.
“He’s been taken to hospital for observation with back pain and lower neck pain,” deputy chief steward Greg Rudolph said.
“He did hit the deck pretty hard but he is conscious and alert and with his parents.”
Clipperton is one of Sydney’s promising young apprentices and has ridden five city winners so far this season.
