The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) today presented the 2011 Emirates Melbourne Cup trophy – valued at $175,000 – during an event at the Flemington Heritage Centre to launch the Club’s Australian Heritage Week celebrations.
VRC Announces Emirates Melbourne Cup Trophy’s New Home
Sponsors, partners and special guests including three time Melbourne Cup winning jockey Glen Boss gathered for the first look at the 2011 Emirates Melbourne Cup in its new home at the Flemington Heritage Centre, where it will reside when not on tour. Made each year by Hardy Brothers Jewellers in Brisbane, the Cup has increased in value from $150,000 in 2010 due to the rising price of gold.
Offering a unique opportunity for interstate and international tourists as well as local enthusiasts, VRC Chairman, Mr Rod Fitzroy, encouraged people to visit the Flemington Heritage Centre. In addition to the announcement, the VRC will this week celebrate Australian Heritage Week, with a program of events at Flemington Racecourse from Thursday, 14 April to Saturday, 16 April.
