After a cracking 2014 #MelbourneCup race, Twitter Australia has crunched the numbers which show that today’s event really was the race that stops a nation – before a huge roar of the crowd.
The below graph shows a sharp spike occurred at 15:09pm when Protectionist stole the glory and won the #MelbourneCup for 2014.

When the race kicked off, there was a 66% increase in tweets compared to last year, while the Tweet per Minute (TPM) peak at 3.09pm when Protectionist took out first place showed a rise of 64% compared to 2013.
