Group One-winning stayer Herculian Prince and talented colt Foxwedge have started their new campaigns with barrier trial wins at Randwick on Tuesday.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained Herculian Prince won the Group One Metropolitan Handicap (2400m) last October but has failed to fire in his five starts since that victory.
The rising six-year-old won his 1050m heat by a neck with Sydney’s leading jockey Nash Rawiller in the saddle.
Rawiller also partnered the John O’Shea-trained Foxwedge to win his 728m trial by a nose in the colt’s first public hitout since the Golden Slipper in April when he finished seventh.
Foxwedge is being aimed at the Group One Golden Rose (1400m) on September 10 with the San Domenico Stakes (1100m) on August 13 expected to be his first-up assignment.
