Champion jumps jockey Brett Scott is waiting on the results of scans following a lengthy back operation this week.
Victorian Jockeys’ Association executive Des O’Keeffe said surgeons operated on Scott for more than seven hours at The Alfred Hospital on Tuesday.
“The specialists are running more tests on Brett’s back to see exactly how the operation went before giving him an accurate prognosis,” O’Keeffe said.
Scott, 40, suffered spinal injuries in a seemingly harmless fall at Yarra Valley on Cox Plate day last year and has been walking with the assistance of a cane.
Meanwhile, Darren Gauci will miss up to four months as he recovers from a compressed fracture to his lower back sustained in a race fall at Mornington on Tuesday.
O’Keeffe said specialists at The Alfred fitted Gauci with a back brace on Thursday to assist the healing process.
“Darren will be in a back brace for a few weeks before he begins his rehabilitation,” O’Keeffe said.
