Werther is the premier horse at 2000m+ in Hong Kong and as such, he is the popular elect in the market for the Hong Kong Cup (2000m) this Sunday at Sha Tin.
The John Moore trained former kiwi was outstanding when winning the Jockey Club Cup last time out at the track/distance under Tommy Berry given he had improvement to come whereas others were more fit. He did get down to $2.50 from $3 but but is now at $2.70.
The horse he beat in that race, Time Warp, is rock solid at $6 after opening $7, though Moreira has jumped off to ride Neorealism ($5.50-$6-$5.50). The other Japanese runner Staphanos, with Hugh Bowman on board, has had admirers ($11-$13-$11).
