Woohoo ($3.70 favourite): Overseas invader and one of the fancied runners. Placed five from 19 starts and three of those were on synthetic tracks. Leon, Dean and Trent Wells don’t leave Tassie and cross the Bass Strait for nothing.
Sergeant Sam ($6.50): We draw a long bow here and come up with omen tip. Bathurst crowned their King of the Mountain last weekend and top jockey Noel “King” Callow will ride this five-year-old gelding. Two placings from 20 starts were on synthetic surfaces.
Bellwhist ($7.50): Group 1 winning jockey Dean Yendall takes the ride on this lightly raced six-year-old. Ran his first placing and only top three finish in 19 starts, four runs back. Has speed and should give a sight.
The Black Isle ($8.00): Three placings from 25-starts, but beaten 11.25 lengths last start in heavy going. Apprentice 1.5kg claim should help, but may not be enough.
Lechter ($12): Well named by Sharkbite. Connections have dined on better food than Fava Beans from his five placings this year, although nothing from 1200m races.
Bashirah ($15): Border hopper from Hawkesbury that has decent form with two placings from last five starts. Latest second brings him right in the mix but previous 19 starts were ordinary.
Costano Mille ($23): This mare’s combined total would make any Aussie cricketer proud. Her last eight trips to the barrier have seen her finish a combined total of just over 100 lengths from the winner. Her latest effort for fourth, beaten 8.25 lengths, was one of her better performances and she is well on the way to a double century.
Positive ($27): Connections have had to “stay” exactly what the name says. But negatives outweigh positives with three placings from 24 and this eight-year-old was $101 last start.
Briconi ($31): Placed three starts back in Bendigo Maiden (1000m) seven career placings, but might be wobbly at the end of 1200m.
Beau Dazzle ($35): This seven-year-old is the big money earner of the field, but also the longest loser. In her 58-start career nine placings has earned this mare $41,238. However her last placing was April last year and she has not troubled the top three for 29 starts and her starting price has wavered from $91 to $201 in recent starts.
Sathern ($46): Can race handy, but usually is not there for long. This gelding was beaten just under six lengths at Pooncarie last start. I know what you’re thinking. It was a rest stop for Burke and Wills in 1860.
Pointer Sister ($51): Not raced since December last year, three career placings from 20 starts. Multiple gear changes with blinkers and lugging bit to come off.
Brother Adam ($12): This gelding has a record only a mother could love. The six-year-old has raced 18-times and is yet to fill a placing.
Woodbine Miss ($7.00): Connections will be hoping for a run. Placed last two of last three starts and was beaten a nose latest run at Murtoa.
My Giddy Aunt ($4.00): This five year-old mare has gone 18 starts without a win and connections are set to try anything for a win. She has blinkers on again, cross-over nose band off, ear muffs off, tongue tie off.
It’s Got Lip ($23): Could be a bit fat, but one of the few horses to start favourite at any stage of their career. Held the honour last start but was third at Pooncarie.
