RANDWICK
RACE ONE
Concrete led throughout to win the TAB Highway (1200 metres) after a perfectly judged ride by Kerrin McEvoy.
Jumping straight to the top, the $4.80 chance landed some good bets in holding off the fast-finishing Star Shaft ($14-$12-$13) which came from near last on the turn. Amorita, the most popular runner in the race, flew home for third after being held up.
Amorita ($3.10) went around with 38 percent of the market while Concrete was next best backed with 26 percent.

RACE TWO
Top Striker gave Damian Lane another winner during the Sydney carnival when successful in the Ranvet Power Formula Sprint (1200 metres).
The Golden Slipper-winning jockey got the best out of Top Striker ($19-$12) which attracted good specking at the eachway odds. Passage Of Time ($11) was held up until late before flashing home for second while Noble Joey ($31) clung on to third after leading.
The big disappointment was Nurillo which had been backed from $7-$5.50 while Problem Solver and Maximus went around as the most popular runners in terms of money held.
RACE THREE
The Chosen One was impressive in taking out the Cellarbrations Frank Packer Plate (2000 metres).
The Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman-trained runner had a three-wide cart into the race after being rearward for most of the trip, before unleashing a big finish down the straight score nicely.
Going around as a $5 equal second pick, The Chosen One was the third best backed runner in the race behind Amangiri ($2.70-$2.90) and Carif.
Dealmaker ($4.60-$5) wasn’t beaten far in second while Purple Sector ($17-$26) held third narrowly in front of the fast-finishing On The White Turf ($19-$26).
Amangiri went around with more than three times the amount of money than the winner, however, was luckless in the straight and never got a clear crack at them.

RACE FOUR
Laburnum defied a betting drift to hold out the heavily tried Into The Abyss in the Hong Kong Jockey Club J H B Carr Stakes (1400 metres).
Kathy O’Hara rated the filly to perfection and after racing outside the leader Ragazze, booted clear midway down the stretch to put a gap in her rivals only to get tired late.
The very popular Into The Abyss ($$3.80-$2.70-$3.10), one of the best backed runners on the entire card, flashed home late to miss out in a photo while So Taken ($4.60-$6.50) was third.
The John Thompson runner-up was responsible for over half the market and held four times the amount of money than anything else.
Of the others, Asharani was $13 on Wednesday and $9.50 this morning before jumping a $7.50 shot.

RACE FIVE
It was a huge upset in the Japan Racing Association Plate (2000 metres) with Grey Lion saluting at $51 on TAB Fixed Odds.
The Matthew Smith-trained runner only had light support and drifted from $26 in the morning.
Coming with a big finishing sprint down the straight, Grey Lion swamped his rivals to beat Emperor’s Way ($17-$11) and All Too Soon ($71), with the latter making a mid-race move to take up the running.
The victory gave Kathy O’Hara a running double.
Of the others, Haripour ($5-$3.50) was hammered in betting and firmed significantly in the final 10 minutes of betting. The gelding was easily the best tried runner in the race and attracted a number of big bets including one of $10,000 @ $4.40.

RACE SIX
All the late money was for Castelvecchio and it proved spot on in the Mote & Chandon Champagne Stakes (1600 metres).
The son of Dundeel was $3.60 in the morning and had strong money come for it right throughout the day, however, it was in the final 30 minutes of betting when the activity ramped up. Bets of $1,000 and $2,000 kept on coming and in the final few minutes, all the money was for Castelvecchio as opposed to race favourite Loving Gaby.
Josh Parr bided his time midfield in running on the colt and unleashed his devastating sprint midway down the straight, claiming the two frontrunners to score a popular win.
It was trainer Richard Litt’s first Group One success and Parr’s fifth.
Loving Gaby ($2.40-$2.70) was brave once again in chasing the speed to finish second while Lady Lupino ($12-$8.50-$12) firmed up midway through the day before getting back out and ran a cracking race in front to hold third.
Castelvecchio held 41 percent of the total investment and was then followed by Loving Gaby (26 percent) and Fortress Command (13 percent).

RACE SEVEN
Pierata was the subject of a good betting move late in the Group One Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400 metres).
The Greg Hickman runner went $5-$4.40 about five minutes out of the jump before starting at $4.80 second favourite.
Pierata was ridden a treat by Tommy Berry who had him just off the speed before peeling wide on the final bend. Sprinting powerfully midway down the running, the four-year-old held off favourite Osborne Bulls ($2.70) in a great finish with Siege Of Quebec ($41) in third.
While Pierata was the second best backed runner in the race, he held a fifth of the money that Osborne Bulls did. The Godolphin runner accounted for 55 percent of the total investment.

RACE EIGHT
Money dictated that it was Godolphin that were going to take out the running of the TAB Hall Mark Stakes (1200 metres), however, it wasn’t the one most punters had thought.
The drift for Home Of The Brave told the story as the favourite went from $1.90 at one stage in betting out to $2.60 and after leading, weakened out of it.
On the flip side, James Cummings’ other runner in Trekking was the one that really firmed up betting on the day. As much as $7.50 was available in the morning but by race time, he was crunched into $4.60 second pick.
Jockey Kerrin McEvoy timed his run perfectly on the son of Street Cry who hit the front over the concluding stages and then held off the finish of Brave Song ($16). Redouble ($51) added plenty of spice to the trifecta.
Trekking was easily best backed to beat the stablemate and was responsible for approximately 23 percent of the total investment.

RACE NINE
Mahalangur was specked throughout the day in the JC Decaux Handicap (1400 metres), however, was nowhere near as popular as the two horses in front of it in the market.
Most punters were with Star Of The Seas ($3.70) and Take It Intern ($4.40) which held nearly 60 percent of the market between them.
Mahalangur, for Team Hawkes, did firm from $9-$6.50 and after sitting behind Special Missile ($18), peeled out on straightening to get the better of the leader in the shadows of the post.
Star Of The Seas was close up in third while Take It Intern wound up fourth.

CAULFIELD
RACE ONE
Grey Shadow delivered a blow to TAB after it was an impressive winner of the Noel Rundle Handicap (1100 metres).
Racing in the lead throughout but wide for a portion of the trip, jockey John Allen booted clear on straightening and gave his rivals no chance as the mare relegated My Biddy ($4.60-$6.50) and Josephine Sea ($9) to the minors.
Grey Shadow was heavily supported despite going $3-$3.40 in betting, however, she was three times as popular as anything else in the race. Ultimately it was a terrible result for TAB as the four-year-old had attracted several big bets.

RACE TWO
Grinzinger Star was the best backed runner in the Bill Collins Handicap (2000 metres) and saluted in the second, much to the delight of his backers.
The Danny O’Brien-trained runner was $4.40 this morning but constant backing saw it jump a $3.80 favourite, taking over top spot in the market from Ryan’s Fender which went $3.60-$4.
Coming with a well-timed run from midfield in running, Grinzinger Star went on to beat Divanation ($16) and Birth Of Venus ($8-$12).
Overall, the winner by Reliable Man was responsible for 34 percent of the total investment.

RACE THREE
Sir Pippin sprouted wings late to defy the betting drift in the Bert Bryant Handicap (1600 metres).
The Chris Waller runner was $9.50 in the morning but got out to $15 at the jump. Despite blowing in the market, the son of Intello still attracted some good support.
Michael Dee timed his run perfectly to nail the leader Intueri ($5.50) right on the line while Handsome Return ($4.20-$5.50) wasn’t far off in third.
The disappointment in the race from a betting perspective was Prometheus, which was heavily tried as a $3 favourite. The Matthew Dale horse was responsible for well over half the total investment.

RACE FOUR
Music Bay was a horror show for favourite backers in the Jack Elliott Handicap (1600 metres).
The Phillip Stokes-trained runner carried big support throughout the betting and was responsible for 46 percent of the market. Overall, Music Bay held more than double what the winner Princess Jenni ($6.50) did.
The David Brideoake-trained runner was best tried to beat the favourite and arrived with a big run to get the cash, giving Damien Oliver a running double in the process.
Music Bay got stuck back on the fence and by the time Kayla Crowther found clear space and momentum, it was all too late.

Favourite backers were sent packing in the Geoff Murphy Handicap (1100 metres).
John Moloney’s Graceful Storm caused a huge upset at $81 Fixed Odds when finished right over the top of the well tried Thrillster ($5) while Thine Is The Power ($9) ran on nicely for third.
Thrillster carried some big bets and was the second best tried runner in the race behind Tofane, which attracted all the big money in the final 20 minutes of betting.
Tofane was crunched from $4 in the morning into $3.20 at the jump to hold approximately 30 percent of all money on the race. Damien Oliver couldn’t find any clear running at a vital stage and once clear, flashed home to finish just outside the placings.

Manolo Blahniq was a costly conveyance in the Victoria Handicap (1400 metres).
The Tony Noonan-trained runner was smashed in betting and went around as one of the best supported runners cross the country.
Opening the day at $2.50, he jumped at $2.60 but was as much as $3.80 on Wednesday when markets first opened.
Jockey Dwayne Dunn came the widest on the turn but Manolo Blahniq couldn’t get past Streets Of Avalon in the run home, falling narrowly short at the finish.
The son of Jimmy Choux held a whopping 62 percent of the total investment and more than eight times the amount of money on the winner.
Streets Of Avalon ($4.40-$3.90) was one of the few firmers outside of the favourite while third placegetter Fastnet Tempest ($12) didn’t have a great deal of luck and was close up.

RACE EIGHT
Plein Ciel was gifted a dream run through along the inside approaching the home turn and made the most of it to win the Le Pine Funerals Easter Cup (2000 metres).
Jockey Craig Williams made the most of the leader Mantastic unfortunately going amiss, scooting through along the inside on the home bend and then kicking clear on straightening.
The Anthony Freedman runner had been heavily backed throughout the day and landed the money at $3.40 on TAB Fixed Odds. The gelding easily held more than anything else in the race and accounted for nearly a third of the money.
Furrion ($8.50) and Morton’s Fork ($14) filled the minors.

Punters were left cheering after the heavily backed Haunted was able to take out the final event on the card.
The James Cummings runner was $4 in the morning and got to as low as $3.70 before jumping a $3.80 shot. The gelding held more money than Dollar For Dollar ($6.50) and Addictive Nature ($4.60) combined and they were the second and third most popular runners in the race.
Forced to sit three-wide for most of the trip just off the speed, jockey Dwayne Dunn got the best out of the son of Lohnro over the concluding stages to land the prize and beat Dollar For Dollar, with Working From Home ($19) beating out Addictive Nature for the minor end of the money.
