PUNTER TURNS $20 INTO $42K

One TAB customer is over $40,000 richer after nailing the mammoth First 4 in the final event of the day at Randwick.

Taken out by White Moss at $21.70 on the NSW tote, Irithea added some spice to the exotics after going around at $15 while third and fourth were Winter Bride ($7) and Quilista ($14).

The punter simply boxed the first four horses for an outlay of $20, giving them 83.33% of the winning dividend which paid upwards of $50,000 due to the fact the popular favourite Spright failed to figure in the placings.

RANDWICK

RACE ONE

Power Scheme overcame a wide run throughout to win an action packed running of the Kings Of Sydney Sport Mile (1600 metres).

Going around as a $7.50 chance, jockey Mark Zahra-timed his run to perfection as the pair hit the front and then held off Foxborough ($11-$12) in a tight finish.

Extraordinary ($34) filled the trifecta placing.

Most of the money in this race was riding with Amercement ($4.40) which was a significant drifter after being $3.30 in the morning. Significance ($6-$4.80) was the best mover since Wednesday after being $11 at that point while Autocratic ($6-$4.80) had its admirers also.

BETS: SIGNIFICANCE $2,000 @ $6, $1,000 @ $6, $2,000 @ $5, $1,500 x $2,000 e/w @ $5/$1.90

RACE TWO

Fasika made it three-from-three when she held off the finish of Millard Reaction to win The Agency South Pacific Classic (1400 metres).

The Joe Pride runner was kept safe in betting at $6 but was overshadowed by the likes of Green Aeon ($4.60) and Millard Reaction ($6) which held 44 percent of the total investment between them.

Corey Brown got the best out of the daughter of So You Think to beat Millard Reaction, with Wild Planet ($6.50) sitting three-wide the trip and battling on for third.

The second, third and fourth horses all held more than the winner.

BETS: Fasika $1,000 @ $6, $1,000 e/w @ $5.50/$2.10

BETS: Wild Planet $1,000 @ $6.50

BETS: Green Aeon $5,000 e/w @ $4.80/$1.90, $1,650 e/w @ $4.60/$1.90, $1,500 @ $4.60, $10,000 @ $4.20, $5,000 e/w @ $4/$1.75

BETS: Millard Reaction $10,200 @ $2.20 PLACE

RACE THREE

There was good money around all week to suggest that Bobbing would be extremely hard to beat in the Polytrack Provincial Championships Final (1400 metres).

The Bernie Kelly runner opened $11 once final field betting commenced but it wasn’t long before he was being specked at the eachway quote. Today, he was $7 in the morning before jumping a $7.50 chance.

Settling second last, Koby Jennings pulled out wide turning for home and the son of Beneteau came with a whirlwind finish to land the money. Spring Charlie ($6.50) was second while Chalmers ($18) filled third in front of Oakfield Missile.

Bobbing went around as the second best supported runner in the race and represented a terrible result for TAB. Only the favourite Archedemus ($4.60) held more. Of the others, there was a move for Safado ($7-$5-$6.50) which died out late while Golden Tycoon had admirers at the $9 mark.

BETS: Bobbing $3,000 @ $7.50

BETS: Chalmers $2,000 @ $19

BETS: Archedemus $14,820 @ $1.90 PLACE

RACE FOUR

Anaheed didn’t carry a great deal of support to win the Camera House Percy Sykes Stakes (1200 metres).

The Team Snowden runner was $8 in the morning and got out to $8.50 at the jump, with TAB not willing to take any chances on the daughter of Fastnet Rock.

Tim Clark rated her to perfection outside the heavily tried favourite Cheer Leader ($4.60), who took top spot in betting off the drifting Kiamichi ($3.50-$5).

Anaheed booted clear midway down the straight and then held off the fast-finishing Flit ($7.50-$6) which came from last, with a nose separating them at the end.

Villami ($13-$10) wound up third while the most popular runners in terms of money held (Kiamichi and Cheer Leader) were unplaced.

BETS: Anaheed $2,000 @ $9

BETS: Cheer Leader $15,270 @ $4.20

BETS: Kiamichi $5,000 @ $5, $4,000 @ $4.80

RACE FIVE

Classique Legend repaid the faithful with a dominating victory in the Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200 metres).

A beaten $2 favourite last time out in the Darby Munro, Classique Legend was wide again but this time with cover. Jockey Kerrin McEvoy timed his run to perfection as the pair hit the front midway down the straight and raced away to beat Jonker ($51) and Avantage ($5-$4.60).

Going around as the $3.70 favourite after being $4.80 this morning, the son of Not A Single Doubt repaid those who took the shorts last time out and gave trainer Les Bridge another feature race success.

He wasn’t the best supported runner though with that honour going to Encryption ($6), which held around 10 percent more money than the winner. Classique Legend did hold 21 percent of the total investment.

Trope ($6.50) and Avantage were the others to attract very good support.

BETS: Classique Legend $3,500 @ $3.90, $1,000 @ $3.90, $5,000 @ $3.80, $2,000 @ $3.80

BETS: Encryption $4,250 @ $6

BETS: Trope $4,000 e/w @ $6.50/$2.20

RACE SIX – HEINEKEN 3 AUSTRALIAN OAKS

Punters were cheering after the hot favourite Verry Elleegant was a brilliant winner of the Australian Oaks (2400 metres).

Although drifting in the market after bottoming out at $1.60 earlier in the week, Verry Elleegant was $1.65 out to even money today but was the subject of big bets throughout the afternoon.

James McDonald had her just behind the leading brigade turning for home, peeling wide at the top of the straight and letting the daughter of Zed do the rest.

The pair sailed to the lead inside the final 200 metres to race clear and beat Scarlet Dream ($21-$14), which had been specked at a price, while Frankely Awesome ($5) held third after making a mid-race move to take the lead.

Verry Elleegant held more than double what Frankely Awesome did and was responsible for 46 percent of the market.

Outside of the trifecta runners, Vic Oaks winner Aristia ($7-$5.50) was the subject of good money right throughout the day.

BETS: Verry Elleegant $5,850 @ $2, $5,000 @ $2 TWICE, $4,000 @ $2 TWICE, $3,000 @ $2

BETS: Aristia $2,500 e/w @ $5.50/$1.80

RACE SEVEN – LONGINES QUEEN ELIZABETH STAKES

The champ delivered the goods one final time as Winx captured her third Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2400 metres).

She broke all records at TAB today including holds and bet size on a race she has competed in.

Hugh Bowman settled her midfield in running before coming four-wide approaching the home turn. Straightening up, she rounded up her rivals again and raced away, holding off Kluger ($51) and Hartnell ($23).

She held just shy of $4million ($3,967,222) which surpassed her own record of $3.104million from last year’s Cox Plate.

The Chris Waller mare also broke another of her record at TAB by attracting a new record bet amount after one customer parted with over half a million dollars at the $1.06 quote. They outlaid $550,000 early in the afternoon for a profit of $33,000 with the bet itself surpassing the previous benchmark of $345,000 @ $1.05 placed on her in the George Ryder Stakes last start.

She was responsible for approximately 96 percent of the total investment on the race since Tuesday.

BETS: Winx $550,000 @ $1.06, $271,540 @ $1.06, $266,000 @ $1.07, $246,917 @ $1.06

RACE EIGHT – SCHWEPPES SYDNEY CUP

Chris Waller made it Group One win number 101 after Shraaoh proved to be the best stayer in the Sydney Cup (3200 metres).

Hovering around the $13-$14 mark for most of the betting, Shraaoh finished best with Jay Ford in the saddle to beat Vengeur Masque ($81-$34) which was a big firmer throughout the day. Glory Days ($21-$14) ran right up to the support it had during the day and wound up third in front of Rondinella ($13-$8.50).

It was a blowout for favourite backers with Dubhe ($4-$4.60) going around with nearly 33 percent of the money but it was under pressure a long way out. Midterm ($8.50-$6) and Yogi ($10) were the most popular outside the fav but failed to figure.

BETS: Shraaoh $1,000 @ $15, $600 e/w @ $13/$4

BETS: Dubhe $4,000 @ $4, $2,000 @ $4 MULTIPLE TIMES

BETS: Midterm $2,000 @ $8.50, $4,000 @ $7.50, $3,500 @ $7.50

RACE NINE – COOLMORE LEGACY STAKES

It was Ciaron Maher & David Eustace which took out the final Group One of the day with their consistent mare Kenedna.

Saluting at $26 on TAB Fixed Odds, the win wasn’t totally unexpected despite being a drifter from $19 this morning. At one stage during the week, Kenedna got out to as much as $31.

Flashing home through the centre of the field, John Allen timed his run to perfection to beat Dixie Blossoms ($11-$7) which looked the winner at the 100m mark. Unforgotten ($11-$9.50) was close up in third just in front of roughie Miss Siska ($51) which was in front at one stage down the straight.

Alizee ($4.80-$3.80) was easily the best backed runner and held more than three times the amount of money than Nakeeta Jane ($6), which was second pick in the market, and Dixie Blossoms which had been the subject of strong support all day. The Godolphin mare accounted for 34 percent of the market.

BETS: Kenedna $500 e/w @ $26/$6, $250 e/w @ $26/$7, $500 @ $21

BETS: Alizee $2,300 @ $4.40, $5,000 @ $4, $3,000 @ $4, $2,000 @ $4, $6,000 @ $3.80, $5,000 @ $3.80, $4,500 @ $3.80

RACE TEN – SAPPHIRE STAKES

White Moss firmed late from $23-$19 to land some nice bets in the TAB Sapphire Stakes (1200 metres).

Kathy O’Hara had no hesitation in chasing the tearaway leader Quilista ($14) from the outset. Despite doing all the work in the run, the daughter of Mossman hit the front midway down the running and held off Irithea ($15) and Winter Bride ($7).

The Jason Coyle runner had some specking throughout the day and in the final few minutes of betting, with late money also coming for Godolphin runners Resin ($9.50-$8) and Savatiano ($15-$5.50).

Spright ($4.60) jumped favourite and was responsible for approximately 33 percent of the total investment.

BETS: White Moss $1,000 e/w @ $26/$7, $500 @ $26, $500 @ $23, $700 x $150 e/w @ $19/$5

BETS: Savatiano $3,000 @ $6.50, $3,000 @ $5.50

CAULFIELD

RACE ONE

Super Seth landed some big bets in taking out the Ern Jensen Funerals Handicap (1200 metres).

As much as $2.30 was bet earlier in the week for the Anthony Freedman runner, however, the price didn’t last long at all as a number of big bets arrived.

Today, he was $1.75-$1.65 and accounted for 66 percent of the total investment and was five times as popular as the second favourite, Hightail ($4.80).

Clayton Douglas had the son of Dundeel second last and in traffic approaching the turn, however, he found clear running towards the centre of the track and straightening and the colt sprung wings to sweep to an impressive victory.

Stand To Attention ($19) and Lucifer’s Reward ($71) filled the minors.

BETS: Super Seth $3,000 @ $1.75, $3,000 @ $1.70, $4,000 @ $1.65, $3,000 @ $1.65, $2,400 @ $1.65, $2,000 @ $1.65 MULTIPLE TIMES

BETS: Hightail $3,000 @ $4.60

RACE TWO

Call It A Day led throughout for Jess Eaton to capture the No Fuss Events Handicap (1440 metres).

Kept safe in betting at around the $6 mark, Call It A Day booted clear on the turn and then held off the finishes of Dr Drill ($23-$14) and Renewal ($3.60).

The third placegetter was the favourite and easily best tried runner in the race. The Team Hawkes runner held 56 percent of the market and was more than four times as popular as anything else.

Of the unplaced brigade, Sunday Pray ($10-$7.50) was a late mover in betting while Snogging ($7.50) carried a number of big bets.

BETS: Call It A Day $1,000 @ $6, $1,000 e/w @ $6/$2.20, $1,500 @ $5.50, $8,700 @ $2.20 PLACE

BETS: Renewal $2,000 @ $3.70, $4,000 @ $3.60, $3,500 @ $3.60, $1,000 @ $3.60 TWICE

BETS: Snogging $5,000 @ $7.50

RACE THREE

Truly Discreet always seems to have support whenever it goes around and today was no different in the Next Payments Handicap (1440 metres).

The Dan O’Sullivan-trained mare benefitted from a great run behind the leader and Michael Poy’s 3kg claim.

Finding a split between the frontrunners, Truly Discreet hit the line powerfully over the final stages to overhaul the well-tried favourite Ocean Deep ($3.90), which led, while Temple Of Bel ($7.50) was close up in third in front of the popular See Me Exceed.

Ocean Deep was nearly three times as popular as anything else in the race.

BETS: Truly Discreet $1,000 @ $10, $630 @ $8, $500 @ $8, $500 @ $7 TWICE

BETS: See Me Exceed $3,000 @ $4.80, $2,200 @ $4.80, $1,500 @ $4.80, $1,000 @ $4.80

RACE FOUR

Michael Poy landed a running double after he guided the heavily backed favourite Steel Prince to victory in the Grunt Standing @ Yulong Handicap (2425 metres).

The son of Nathaniel was one of the best backed runners all day and commanded nearly 70 percent of the money in the race. TAB had initially offered $2.50 on Wednesday.

Getting snookered midfield approaching the home bend, Poy managed to squeeze the gelding through a needle eye opening and he sprinted sharply after that to hit the front on straightening.

The pair then raced away over the concluding stages to beat Rockarral ($6) and O’Lonera ($14).

Steel Prince’s win also gave Anthony Freedman a double after he prepared Super Seth to win the opener.

BETS: Steel Prince $4,500 @ $1.95 TWICE, $4,000 @ $1.95 TWICE, $3,000 @ $1.95, $2,000 @ $1.95

RACE FIVE

Secret Blaze delivered the goods in the Thoroughbred Club Galilee Series Final (2425 metres).

The Tony McEvoy runner was easily the best supported horse in the race, going around with a tick over half the total investment.

Backed from $3.20 on Wednesday into $2.50 today, Secret Blaze tracked the leaders turning for home before his opposition away to score comfortably over Transact ($8.50-$6) and American In Paris ($8.50-$11).

BETS: Secret Blaze $2,000 @ $2.90 TWICE, $2,000 @ $2.80, $3,000 @ $2.40

RACE SIX

Tarwin defied the betting drift to record a super impressive victory in the L.U Simon Builders Handicap (1440 metres).

The Mick Kent runner was $3.90 in the morning after opening at $4.60 during the week, however, by the time the race jumped he went out to $5.

Sweeping home from the rear of the field with Lachlan King in the saddle, the pair swept to the front over the concluding stages to beat Seberate ($9) and Phoneme ($14).

Tarwin was the most popular runner but displaced as favourite by Saccharo ($4), which had all the late money come for it.

BETS: Tarwin $2,500 @ $4.60, $2,000 @ $4.20, $2,200 x $2,800 e/w @ $4.80/$1.90

RACE SEVEN

The punters just missed out from landing a good betting move after Leiter was narrowly beaten by Columbus Circle.

Heading into the Honan Insurance Group Handicap (1000 metres), Leiter was the best backed runner late and went $3-$2.80 to be a clear favourite over Halvorsen ($4-$3.70).

Appearing as though he would get the better of Columbus Circle in the straight, the latter kept on kicking to get the money at $8.50 on TAB Fixed Odds. The son of Street Boss defied a big betting drift in saluting for Luke Currie and Nick Ryan having been $4.60 in the morning.

RACE EIGHT

Miss Leonidas ran her rivals off their legs to taking out the Yulonginvest Bel Esprit Stakes (1100 metres) at double figure odds.

Spearing the gates and leading for Joe Bowditch, Miss Leonidas went around as a $19 chance and proved too speedy for I Am Someone ($18) and the favourite Eduardo which did all the work outside the leader.

Eduardo ($1.95) went around as the most popular runner at Caulfield on the day, holding nearly 70 percent of the money in the event.

Bons Away ($5-$4.40) was best tried to beat it but held a fraction of what the Sarah Zschoke runner did.

BETS: Miss Leonidas $250 e/w @ $21/$4.20, $300 e/w @ $15/$4

BETS: Eduardo $5,000 @ $1.95 TWICE, $4,000 @ $1.95 TWICE, $3,000 @ $1.95 MULTIPLE TIMES, $5,000 @ $1.90
