2022 Robert Sangster Stakes Runner Preview
1. September Run: The race sets up perfect for September Run if she can get clear air and be allowed to roll into the race. She got that set up in the William Reid and the end result was a dominant win, winning her second major. She could have easily gone to Sydney but the stable have kept her on ice, target this race, and she’s one of the hardest to beat.
2. Bella Nipotina: Done a ripping job since joining Maher/Eustace. Hasn’t raced since The Championships when finishing best to win the Sapphire. Maps to get a perfect run in transit and will be strong late. Definite winning chance.
3. Instant Celebrity: Won this race last year. Resumed in the Irwin in what was a very slowly run Irwin and tried hard, just missing out on picking up Bella Vella. IMO, jury is out with her and drawn wide, she’ll get too far back I’d suspect.
4. Bella Vella: Will Clarken has done an amazing job with her. Gifted the Irwin and lasted, just. There’ll be more pressure here and at the end of 1200m, I think she will be found out and staggering late.
5. Brooklyn Hustle: She’s flying. Tried her guts out last start in The Discovery at Sale but couldn’t pick up In The Boat, who looks a genuine Goodwood horse. Form reads well, she gets J Kah, she’ll be strong late…one of a few I’ll be backing.
6. Away Game: Bonny mare for Maher/Eustace. Freshened up since struggling on the bog at Rosehill in the Galaxy. Gate one and firmer footing are two big ticks. I just have a couple ahead of her.
7. Snapdancer: Good mare for Mares races…just not 100% sure she’s up to Group l level, and she will need to work from the wide gate, so happy to look elsewhere.
8. All Banter: Genuine chance if this track is playing on speed. Showed some good ticker to win the Railway at Oakbank, but this is a different level. She’ll land near the front and give a sight…last bit will test.
9. Chaillot: I’m very wary of Chaillot for Archie Alexander, who has been kept fresh since a 1400m run at Flemington back on March 12 when back in the run and never really a factor, but she finished off strong behind Kissonallforcheeks in what was a high rating race. She races best fresh, she’ll love a fast run 1200m and be strong late.
10. So You Assume: Talented mare resuming for Shane Nicholls. I’d think she has eyes on potentially a Stradbroke/Tatts Tiara path, but she could get a cheap run on speed and is proven over further so a hard 1200m is no issue. Knockout hope.
11. Another Award: Another Award can launch at these late if the breaks go hier way. She’s flying for the Macdonald/Gluyas camp and deserves a crack at a local Group l. Her last two starts have resulted in sharp wins, the latest being here two weeks back in a solid 78. Couldn’t back her with confidence to win, but wouldn’t shock me if she did.
12. Gaze Grise: Has come back in super order, but last Saturday, her win was somewhat lucky IMO, and it wasn’t a strong 78. That, plus the wide draw, I can’t have her.
13. Argentia: Quality filly that lapped up a hot a speed to win the Kevin Hayes fresh. Tried her out over further but at this stage, 1200m looks her sweet spot. Gives them a start but will be strong late.
14. Heresy: Comes through the Redelva and she was very good in defeat after getting a mile back in the run. Ollie takes over and if she’s within range, she is certainly good enough to threaten.
15. Gimmie Par: SCR
16. Champagne Dreams: Caused somewhat of a surprise when winning the Redelva but credit to her, she was there on speed, there to be run down, but she found under pressure and was too good. Harder here, but she’ll give a sight.
