Japan Racing Association Plate Form Guide
1. KELINNI – N Rawiller (10)
He just kept stepping up to the mark last preparation, claiming the G3 Lexus Stakes (2500m) before rounding out his Spring campaign with a fourth placing behind Green Moon in the Melbourne Cup. He’s had four runs back this time in, all at WFA, and has improved on each occasion. He made his run early and looked a chance last start in the G1 BMW (2400m) and stuck on well to finish 1 ¼ behind Fiveandahalfstar. Gets back to handicap conditions for the first time this prep and enjoys the sting out but does have to lug 60kgs!
Odds: $5.00
2. CRAFTY IRNA – S Clipperton (3)
Had every chance to run down Thy two starts back when second in the Listed Aspiration Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm and again, had a sweet run in transit but was disappointing over the final stages where, as a 7/2 favourite, she weakened late to finish seventh (beaten 6.7 lengths) in the G3 Epona Stakes (1900m). Her record over this trip, a good draw and previous form, suggests she’s worth giving another chance to.
Odds: $13.00
3. FIBRILLATION – (12)
She ran third behind Bello at Newcastle before, at her last start, settling on the pace and sticking on well to record a fourth (beaten 4.4 lengths) behind Aliyana Tilde and Epingle in the G3 Epona Stakes (1900m). Drawn wider here today and expect she’ll get back in the run. Any rain would help her chances.
Odds: $10.00
4. HOYLONNY – J Cassidy (2)
Started 15/4 favourites two starts back in the Listed Sky High Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill, but appeared to be caught a little flatfooted on the turn before finishing sixth behind Julienas. Ridden to save every inch last start when second (beaten 1 ¾ lengths) behind Lights Of Heaven in the G3 Neville Selwood (2000M). Fifth up, drawn well, handles the wet, should be no excuses for him if he doesn’t put in a top effort.
Odds: $5.00
5. SAID COM – J Bowman (9)
Showed plenty of ability as a younger horse as evident by his neck second to Mosheen in the G1 Randwick Guineas last year but we’ve been waiting for him to reproduce that form ever since. Made ground late in the Newmarket Handicap (1400m) at Newcastle behind Bellow before again, making ground late but never threatening the winner when third (beaten 2 ¼ lengths) behind Light of Heaven in the G3 Neville Selwood (2000m). Will be better for that run given he was jumping in distance but still can’t bring myself to include him among the numbers.
Odds: $11.00
6. SINGLE – Scratched
7. COURT CONNECTION – SCRATCHED
8. LUNAYIR – SCRATCHED
9. MAULES CREEK – C Williams (7)
Hasn’t won (or run a place) since claiming the Listed Randwick Quality over this track and trip (on a Slow surface) back in March of last year – ten starts ago now. Got back a long way and finished off ok last start when twelfth (beaten 4.4 lengths) behind Skyerush last week in the Doncaster Prelude and the step up to 2000m – where he’s finished close enough in G3 races over the distance last Spring – is in his favour.
Odds: $16.00
10. STRIKE THE STARS – SCRATCHED
11. SCREAM MACHINE – M K. O’Hara (8)
Progressive 4yo gelding who returned form a ten week break in the G3 City Liverpool Cup before finishing only 3 ½ lengths behind Havana Rey in the G2 Ajax Stakes. Got further back than anticipated last week in the G3 Doncaster Prelude before finishing well to claim sixth spot, 2.6 lengths behind Skyerush. Has won two from three this trip and would consider him a genuine each-way chance at $11.00 on recent efforts.
Odds: $11.00
12. GAZZA GURU – B Avdulla (14)
Among his 78 starts, he’s been placed in the G3 Newcastle Cup (behind Glencadam Gold), the Listed Wyong Cup (behind Julienas) and two starts back, the Listed Randwick City Stakes behind last week’s winner Tremec. Why then is he $67? He’s only one won of his past twenty six and is drawn wide here.
Odds: $67.00
13. SINDARIN – K McEvoy (15)
Stuck on solidly two starts back when third to Coliseo in the Listed Canberra Cup but was nothing but poor at her following start where she finished 9.9 lengths from the winner in the G3 Epona Stakes (1900m) Steps up in grade, needs to find form and has to come from 15. Too many things against her here.
Odds: $34.00
14. PIRATE BAY – C Reith (13)
European galloper with Kris Lees who ran fifth behind Lunayir at Warwick Farm at his Australian debut back in March before getting back and finishing off well when 3.2 lengths behind Messene and Studio (since won). Best form in Europe was over this trip and didn’t mind the cut out of the track, if you’re looking for a one at value ($19.00), this bloke may be it.
Odds: $19.00
15. SYSMO – G Schofield (5)
Trainer Tony McEvoy kept his Sydney strike rate up with this 4yo gelding’s last start win at Canterbury in a BM 78 (1580m). Gave the impression there, that a longer trip would be even more to his liking and Schofield should be able to place him to advantage from gate 5.
Odds: $12.00
16. OUR GIRL CHARLIZE – (11)
It’s been a long time since this 4yo Stratum mare has visited this winner’s stall, twelve starts to be precise and that came in a BM 70 at Newcastle. Her last start was a fifth (beaten 5.7 lengths) behind Aliyana Tilde in the Epona Stakes (1900m) and whilst that was a fair effort, struggles to do better than that in races of this grade.
Odds: $101.00
OVERVIEW
A competitive race. Think it’s d-day for Hoylonny this time in. He gets to the right race at the right time his preparation, handles the sting out and drawn well. Scream Machine also seems to be peaking at the run time given his last couple of runs and his good value at $11.00. He won’t have to get so far back today (hopefully) and will be finishing hard over the 2000m.
