Colette is one of the leading contenders in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes

A high class of fillies and mares will battle it out for bragging rights this Saturday at Randwick in one of the great races for the fairer sex, the Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m).

Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2022 Queen Of The Turf Stakes.

2022 Queen Of The Turf Stakes Speed Map

Good speed here on paper with a stack of go forward horses, namely Shout The Bar, Vangelic, Annavisto, Le Lude, Barb Raider and Never Been Kissed. I think Shout The Bar is the one who will lead.

2022 Queen Of The Turf Stakes Runner Preview

1. Colette: I’m just on guard with her. Disappointing in the Chipping Norton and while she ran well in the George Ryder, I thought she was in the better ground and that form didn’t stack up in the Doncaster. Plus, as she has gotten older, I think she isn’t as dynamic on wet ground as she was say 18-24 months ago.

Odds: $3.30

2. Lighthouse: She struggled on the Randwick heavy last Saturday in the Doncaster and to my eye this looks an afterthought. Afterthoughts are rarely a good idea so happy to ignore.

Odds: $11.00

3. Icebath: Icebath…seriously, what does she have to do to win a major? Amazing really that she’s a bridesmaid yet has earned a tick over $4 Million prizemoney. Ran her heart out last Saturday in the Doncaster when a closing third to Mr Brightside. Back to Mares grade, on the back up, she’ll take beating.

Odds: $6.00

4. Shout The Bar: Bounced back to winning form with a Sunline Stakes demolition. Inside was no disadvantage that night at The Valley and I do feel she is better on firmer footing. Happy to risk.

Odds: $SP.00

5. Hungry Heart: Reckon they’ll scratch again and save her for Queensland in hoping to get a dry deck. Hasn’t raced since the Apollo when good late behind Think it Over. Wants a firmer deck compared to recent weeks, and she does have class when she gets conditions to suit. But, doubt she runs.

Odds: $SP.00

6. Nimalee: She’s a sneaky hope. Ran in the Emancipation and looked like she was absolutely trucking. But condition just gave way late. That’ll top her off beautifully for this, she likes wet ground…can see her finishing top four.

Odds: $26.00

7. Promise Of Success: Bursting to win a race this time in and it came via the Emancipation at Newcastle. I reckon she’s more dynamic on top of the ground but certainly handles the wet and lobs into a lovely spot from the gate. Hard to beat.

Odds: $12.00

8. Vangelic: I’d give her a serious shout if this was a Good3. Stuck on really well in the Emancipation but with a Heavy10 on the cards, I am looking elsewhere.

Odds: $41.00

9. Annavisto: Has the talent to win. Her manners are awful though. Got quite keen in the Emancipation and she was gassed late. If she relaxes in the run, she can win. If not, she will be down the track.

Odds: $19.00

10. Quantum Mechanic: Been set for this race and has had two prep runs in Melbourne. Sunline effort was a touch on the plain side I thought but she handles give in the track and like horses that are set for this and not afterthoughts.

Odds: $34.00

11. Mirra Vision: Forgiving her Emancipation effort given she was nearer the inside and that clearly wasn’t the spot to be. Very genuine mare that tries hard but isn’t a proper wet tracker.

Odds: $SP.00

12. Steinem: It’s an unusual set up so can’t have her…oh wait, Maher/Eustace train. The way they train their horses, you just can’t doubt that thought process. Is she good enough? Yes. I can’t back her to win but wouldn’t shock me if she did.

Odds: $19.00

13. Le Lude: Dominated from the front when winning at this track/distance in the Angst but she was gifted a soft lead that day and this is different gravy.

Odds: $71.00

14. Yonce: I love Yonce. I said after her second career win, she could be better than stablemate Marabi, who at the time was unbeaten and a star in her own right. I think this mare can confirm that status in her own right with a win here. 2000m was a bridge too far I thought at Flemington last time but class got her home. She swims, she’s hard fit and has the Maher/Eustace polish.

Odds: $6.00

15. Fangirl: I think she’s a risk, IF, they ride her negative. They rode her to win in the Vinery and voila, she won and was impressive, albeit the race shape was clearly in her corner. She’s a Star and can win. But from a betting perspective, happy to risk.

Odds: $8.00

16. Yearning: I find her back to the mile fascinating because her Vinery run, her splits, it suggested she was on track for the Oaks. She was excellent in defeat. If the back in trip scenario is okay, she’s right in the mix.

Odds: $SP.00

17. Barb Raider: Barb Raider is a very genuine mare for the Jerome Hunter that will put herself on speed and give her all. Did that in her first two starts this prep, winning them both. Then went to the Sunline where she took on the Mares and stuck on bravely when second to Shout The Bar. She’ll run a bold race I suspect.

Odds: $31.00

18. Never Been Kissed: On speed in the Vinery and had complete control. Tried hard but just felt the pinch late. I think back to the mile is ideal for her, she’ll be near the front and be strong at the end.

Odds: $41.00

2022 Queen Of The Turf Stakes $100 Betting Strategy:

I’ve been #1 of the Yonce fan club and think she could be a Caulfield Cup horse for next season. Happy to be with her so having $25 Win/$75 Place.

Group l Strategy Outlay: $5570
Group l Strategy Return: $10216.6
