I love quirky little racing stories.
You know the type of thing. When horses finish 1st to 10th or so in racebook order. Or when a maiden wins after 100 starts. That type of thing.
This may not be exactly in the scope of that, but I think it’s worth looking at.
And Lord knows, we all need some light, fascinating, titillating things in our now caged lives.
Race 1 at Hawkesbury on Tuesday.
It’s a 1100m maiden and it’s, well a who blinks first type of contest.
In one corner we have the toppie DREAMING OF GOLD (Magic Albert-Johanski) who is a 4YO mare.
She has raced 4 times thus far for 4 x 2nd placings, all narrowly beaten. Deserves a win , right?
Well, look at ESTROVERTO (Pierro-Majestic Music). He’s a 4YO gelding.
And he’s run 2nd on 5 occasions.
Probably deserves a win, too.
Both have placed at this provincial level. And both are progeny of dams who were stakes winners.
So they should know how to win.
For the record, even though the race is a tad too short for both of them, I think Estroverto has a few too many things in his favour this time around and finishes ahead of Dreaming Of Gold.
Whether they come first and 2nd remains to be seen, but I’ll wager at least one of them runs 2nd again in this race!
Dreaming Of Gold is at $1.95 in the market with Estroverto the $4.20 second favourite with Playup.
