Make no mistake, we saw a very, very strong 2YO race to open the meet at Randwick on Saturday.
And that includes a couple who didn’t win.
But, let’s take nothing away from the winner who is obviously pretty impressive.
PAULELE (Dawn Approach-Chatoyant) won the race and won it comfortably. It was his second win from two starts and he looks brilliant. He ran 1.10.16.
Darren Beadman, who rode many great juveniles in his day and is now he right hand man at Godolphin for winning trainer James Cummings, was asked about the colt following the win.
“Yes, he’s a lovely young colt,” he beamed.
“He’s very professional and that was a great effort. He hit the line nice. He is a pretty versatile colt too, being able to go go left and right.”
That reference was in regards to his debut win at The Valley a few weeks back over 1000m.
“That race in Melbourne he won, it has over the years produced some really exciting horses. So super effort.”
Kerrin McEvoy, who rode him, was pretty impressed too.
“He’s a very nice colt. He has some good ability under the hood and did it strongly today. He was a bit spicy before the race, but settled down once he got into the barriers.
“I was happy with his rhythm and he gave me a good kick.”
Last start at Moonee Valley he sat three wide and back yet powered home. Today he fired up from the get go, was buzzing prior to the race as well, and led all the way.
ZARASTRO (I Am Invincible-Adrift) who cost $1,050,000 as a yearling was on debut in this and he ran boldly to grab 2nd.
Chris Waller trains him and he sat behind the winner all the way losing no admirers down the running. He looks a star in the making.
A lot can be said for most of the others too.
FORZANINI (Pride Of Dubai-Fornini) rattled home for 3rd spot suggesting as the races increase, so will her talent.
She was on debut as well.
The winner won by nearly 2 lengths though and paid $2.05 at Sportsbet with his odds shortening into $17 for the 2021 Golden Slipper.
