Randwick Race One Number 4 Onemore Sapphire ($8):
His form says he’s going ordinary, but I reckon Onemore Sapphire is one of the better gambles on the card. It’s been an odd prep by Terry Evans, with the bushfires certainly not helping. The distances have been mixed and while on face value he hasn’t done much, he’s racing as if he wants further, which he gets here, and he is a swimmer. Think he only runs well.
Randwick Race Five Number 10 Lanciato ($10):
Mark Newnham trains this gelding, who can produce an explosive finale if he gets conditions to suit. Doubt he will get that here, but first up off a long break, I’m keen to see him resume. He last raced during the Scone Carnival when down the track in the Luskin Star. Dodged the Spring, is back for the Autumn and has trialled nicely leading in.
Randwick Race Seven Number 8 Emeralds ($20):
Emeralds is a talented daughter of Sebring for the John Sargent stable that resumes. This filly hasn’t raced since the Thousand Guineas where she was far from disgraced behind Flit. Off the Jan 23 trial, I’m saying perhaps she may need this run en route to potentially the Surround, but she’s got enough quality to run well, and I think the wet track will ensure this feels like 1400m.
Randwick Race Ten Number 3 Cuba ($16):
He was a bit tardy away when resuming over 1200m here a fortnight ago but used up petrol to hold a good spot. Reckon that early burn cost him a placing when fourth to Roheryn. He handles wet ground, presses forward under and fitter, up to 1300m, he’s hard to beat.
