Paniagua has been heavily backed at odds in Saturday's The Gateway

A North Queensland star has been a significant firmer in early betting with Sportsbet.com.au for the Gateway (1400m) this Saturday at Eagle Farm.

Paniagua won the Country Final last Saturday at Doomben and backs up into what looks a strong race, with the winner getting a free ticket into the Stradbroke next year. Opened $15, then went straight to $6.50, but has firmed again, now into $5.50.

That has forced the two big guns in betting to ease. Frosty Rocks is favourite. Opened $2.35 and remains close to that quote at $2.40, but money wise, hasn’t been supported with a great deal of confidence in early betting.

Profit sits at $2.90 after opening $2.60.
