The Hawkes Team trained Messene has been crunched in betting since markets opened with the $7.50 available early in All-In betting long gone with his odds now into $4.60 with online bookmaker Sportsbet.com.au.
Messene won seven races in a row before going into the Group 1 Doncaster Mile as the second favourite at $5 behind Weary who will also line-up in the Missile Stakes on Saturday.
Messene has only been beaten four times and two of them have been 1st-up at 1200m but punters think he can turn that around after he impressed in two recent trials despite not winning either, the latest of those trials was last Monday.
