The 2016 Melbourne Cup winner Almandin has clearly been the best backed runner in early Sportsbet.com.au betting to take out the Zipping Classic (2400m) this Saturday at Sandown.
The Robert Hickmott trained galloper raced in the Melbourne Cup and was on face value disappointing behind Rekindling, but he was wide throughout and from all reports wasn’t 100% post race. Punters are willing to forgive. He opened $2.50 and is very solid at that price, after touching $2.60 at one stage. He is the one the punters want but Sportsbet are slightly taking him on given the two flat runs leading in hence why he remains at the price he is.
The firmer has been Big Duke, who ran a mighty fourth in the Melbourne Cup. He touched $3.30 from $3.60 and now sits at $3.40. The other key runner is The Taj Mahal, but he has been easy early, out to $3.90 from $3.70.
In terms of value, there has been interest for Berisha ($15-$16-$14).
