Much of the Aussie interest revolves around Armory in the feature race of Day 2 at this year’s Royal Ascot meeting, The Prince of Wales’s Stakes, but it is one of the Cox Plate runner-up’s rivals who has attracted the bulk of the support with TAB.
Superstar mare Love accounts for 60 percent of the wagers on the Group 1 event, to be run at 1.20am tomorrow, and has subsequently been $3 into $2.30. Armory has been $3.80 out to $4.20 with Lord North the other prominent in betting at $3.10.
On Day 3, Twilight Payment will provide incentive for Australians to be awake for the week’s signature event – the Gold Cup, to be run at 1.15am AEST – with last year’s Melbourne Cup winner a $26 chance in the market dominated by champion stayer Stradivarius, who is a $1.80 favourite to record a fourth-straight win in the race.
