Punters have already begun to invest in the four big Group Ones this Saturday at Randwick which highlight Day 1 of The Championships.
With the barrier draws conducted for the Doncaster Mile, T.J Smith Stakes, Inglis Sires and Australian Derby, TAB didn’t hesitate in adjusting final field markets and releasing them within minutes of draws which were held earlier this morning.
In The Star Doncaster Mile (1600 metres), Alizee has opened the $6 favourite after coming up with gate 12 in the field of 20. The Godolphin mare had been $5 prior to that and as much as $11 on Saturday morning before she was scratched from the Emancipation Stakes. She heads the market in front of Fifty Stars and Brutal who are $7 respectively while Hartnell ($8) is the only other runner in single figures.
Fundamentalist has been the most notable firmer today after coming up with gate two. TAB had gone up $13 after the draw but early support has seen her firm into $11.
“Fundamentalist is the most popular runner today in our book,” TAB’s Andrew Georgiou said of the Doncaster Mile.
“After her, we have seen some money for Hartnell but that shouldn’t be a surprise considering he is always one of the more popular runners whenever he goes around.”
In other betting news since today’s draws:
- Loving Gaby and Microphone ($7 respectively) are easily the two most popular horses since today’s Inglis Sires’ draw
- Osborne Bulls and Trapeze Artist head betting for the T.J Smith Stakes at $4 while Pierata and Santa Ana Lane are on the next line of betting at $7
- Frankely Awesome ($13-$9) has been a notable firmer for the Australian Derby
- Golden Slipper winner Kiamichi is a $9 chance for the Sires after drawing gate 1
