It has been a non-stop record breaking career and all of us are just so thankful we’ve seen it.
But on Saturday in the Gr 1 $4million Queen Elizabeth Stakes, even if she doesn’t win, she creates yet another record.
In Australia we have a passion for memorabilia – call it a nostalgic bent we all seem to share.
So with that in mind, more money will be wagered on Winx than on any horse in Australian racing history this Saturday, particularly on the TAB. And why?
Well, not because everyone thinks she will win necessarily. Most of these bets, probably about 85% in actuality, will never be collected.
The TAB stub for example with your $20 on the great one, will say that, date stamp it and you can, or will just keep it somewhere safe.
By Friday morning, via the NSW TAB alone, over $46,000,000 had been wagered on her.
The next highest single amount on one horse was Chautauqua a few years back and it reached around $15 million.
I’m having $20 on her. The ticket will say $1.08 and the collect will say $21.60.
A $1.60 profit but to me and the millions of fans who will do the same, that ticket stub will NOT be cashed in. It will be put under glass as my memorabilia.
Go girl.
