Punters have got the moths out of the wallet and purse when it comes to the feature two year old race at Launceston this Wednesday, the Gold Sovereign (1200m).
Heading the market is the unbeaten Mystic Journey but she has been friendless early, now sitting at $3 after opening $2.75. But the big mover has been the Henry Dwyer trained Melveen, a last start winner. $21 was the opening price and has been heavily supported, now into $7. That has forced key rivals Gee Gee Secondover ($3.30-$3.60-$3.50) and Our Long Sail ($3.40-$3.90) to drift.
The intriguing runner is the first starter Lady Pluck for Scott Brunton, but at this stage is easy. She opened $11 and is now at $13 despite trialling well and getting Dean Yendall steering.
