The market futures have opened for the $1 million Railway Stakes (1600m), set to run this Saturday on a warm but fine day over in WA.
This signature race over the mile was won last year by a locally trained mare in Galaxy Star.
The bookmakers are predicting another local victory this year, with four WA hopefuls opening at the head of the market. Tellem We’re Comin opens with early favouritism, albeit at $7, the five-year-old bay gelding is coming off a convincing win in the Northam Cup (1600m) ridden by star local hoop William Pike.
He is unbeaten over the journey and although Pike will ride WA Derby winner Regal Power instead, the low weight and Brenton Advulla aboard sees him as a live chance.
Joint second favourites at $8 are The Velvet King and Samizdat are set to be ridden by local jocks Chris Parnham and Jarrad Noske respectively.
James Cummings nominated Best Of Days is in the market, with Brad Rawiller set to ride. He is coming off a solid performance last start in the Cantala Stakes (1600m) when 5th at odds to Fierce Impact who has been withdrawn from the Railway Stakes after nominations.
The race at this stage appears to be very open, with form lines coming from all over the country this will no doubt be another intriguing instalment in the Railway Stakes long history.
