Rosehill Race Nine Number 5 Masked Crusader ($1.90): Ability wise, best horse in the race and could easily blow them away, but he’s yet to really prove himself at this level and $1.90 seems rock bottom. Plus, he had a proper gut buster two weeks ago when four wide no cover for the trip. Couldn’t entertain him at the odds on quote.

Caulfield Race Eight Number 10 Russian Camelot ($1.95): Similar to Masked Crusader. Could blow them away and assert himself as the Melbourne Cup favourite, but he is a horse who wants a staying trip, so 1800m, first time at Caulfield too, there are enough question marks to say that $1.95 is too short and think he’s a risk at the price.

Morphettville Parks Race One Number 4 Quietly Discreet ($1.50): Surely she has to ease back out towards even money and better. $1.50 is just poisonous, even though she was an impressive winner last Saturday and finally showcased what she had been producing at the trials. I think the stablemate Bottom Line at double figures is the better bet, albeit small and each way.
