Punters continue to open their wallets to bet on one of the well fancied international runners in tomorrow’s Melbourne Cup.
Marmelo has been so popular among punters that a fifth of all money wagered with the TAB since the barrier draw has been on the British galloper.
The 5-year-old caught the eye when running on strongly to finish 6th in the Caulfield Cup last month.
Following his run in the Caulfield Cup the Hughie Morrison-trained stayer was trimmed in to as low as $6.50 and equal favourite for the Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup.
Marmelo has since drifted out to as much as $10 before punters rallied and have made him the current standalone favourite at $8.50 ahead of Almandin who has been easy in lead up to tomorrows race.
“Since getting out to as much as $10, punters have rallied for the five-year-old and Marmelo has now displaced Almandin as the TAB Fixed Odds favourite for Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup.” TAB’s Trent Langskaill said.
Hugh Bowman will take the ride on Marmelo who jumps from barrier 16.
