The big guns were out and firing on Monday morning at Randwick, including a leading contender in the Cox Plate. Find out down below who caught our eye the most.
BLACK BOOK: Black Book these runners HERE so you don’t miss their next run!
Randwick- Monday, July 20, Weather Fine, Track Heavy.
Heat One- Greatwood (1st):
Talented stayer that hasn’t raced since finishing down the track in the Australian Cup behind Spillway, but he looks to have come back in great order based on this trial. He won it by ten lengths, leading all the way. He didn’t beat much, but the way he went about it was very impressive and was placed under little pressure from McDonald.
Heat Two- Pornichet (3rd):
If the Cox Plate was run in the next week or two, this is the horse I want to be on. He looked all class in this trial. Shinn had him just off the speed before the leaders kicked clear in the straight, but this bloke was just under a hold and went through the motions beautifully in running third. He is the big gun I am following for the Spring, along with his stablemate Vancouver.
Heat Six- Haptic (2nd):
Godolphin always produce a horse who comes back a star at three after a strong two year old season, and I reckon Haptic could well be that horse. He looked awesome in this barrier trial, leading most of the way out near the outside fence, and while he was grabbed late, he appeared to travel easily and losing his manhood could well be the making of this horse. Very keen to see him when he resumes.
