ROSEHILL

RACE ONE

Suppression landed some nice bets after getting plenty of support to take out the XXXX Handicap (2400 metres).

Opening the day at $4, he would jump a $3.80 chance and go around with 44 percent of the total investment.

Overall, only the son of Mongolian Khan and runner-up Herman Hesse ($3.40-$3.90) held six figures with TAB.

BETS: Suppression $1,500 @ $3.80, $2,000 @ $3.70, $1,000 @ $3.70 MULTIPLE TIMES, $2,000 @ $3.60 MULTIPLE TIMES

RACE TWO

The three popular elects fought out the running of the Vale Chris Kearns Highway (1500 metres).

So Say You always has support when it goes around and today was no different. The Terry Robinson galloper went around a $6 chance.

Shiller’s Myst opened $13 on Wednesday and bottomed out at $3.60 today before jumping a $4 chance. Sizzling Cat ($5-$4.40) was the money horse late in betting.

BETS: So Say You $1,000 e/w @ $5.50/$2.10, $1,000 @ $5

BETS: Shillers Myst $5,000 @ $4

RACE THREE

Shibli did the right thing by favourite backers when proving too strong in the Mates In Construction Handicap (1800 metres).

The Chris Waller rep was $2.90-$3.10 on the day, however, held nearly as much as the second and third picks in Jazzland and Mayfair Spirit ($4.40-$6-$5.50) respectively.

Jazzland ($3.50-$4.20-$4) peaked late in betting before a late rally saw it start second favourite.

BETS: Shibli $3,000 @ $3, $2,500 @ $3, $2,000 @ $3, $3,500 @ $2.80, $1,700 @ $2.80

RACE FOUR

Amiche caused somewhat of a mini upset in the Petaluma Handicap (1100 metres).

The mare was $3.40-$4.20 throughout the day but still went around as the second most popular runner in terms of money held.

Only the race favourite, Seleque ($3-$2.50) held more than the winner and the Chris Waller runner went around with more than half the total investment on the race.

BETS: Amiche $3,800 @ $4, $20,000 @ $2.10 PLACE

BETS: Seleque $4,500 @ $2.50, $2,000 @ $2.50 MULTIPLE TIMES

RACE FIVE

One of the rank outsiders of the field, Real Time Warrior, saluted at the biggest price seen on a Sydney metro track for quite some time in the Drinkwise Country Classic (2000 metres).

The Joanne Hardy runner opened the day at $71 but blew to odds as much as $201 on TAB Fixed Odds before coming back in to $81 at the jump.

In fact, the gelding held the least amount of money of any of the runners including the $251 shot (Mahsinger).

Market fluctuations were spot on with Dream Runner which went $3.20-$2.90 before blowing out late to $3.80. Five Kingdom ($8.50-$5) as best tried to beat the favourite while Kermatin ($11-$8.50-$9) had good backing throughout the day.

BETS: Real Time Warrior $100 @ $126 MULTIPLE TIMES, $50 e/w @ $126/$24, $200 @ $101, $50 e/w @ $101/$19 TWICE

BETS: Dream Runner $5,600 @ $3.60, $2,000 @ $3.10

BETS: Five Kingdom $3,250 @ $5

RACE SIX

Pandora Blue was very costly in the Midway Handicap (1300 metres).

The Kristen Buchanan-trained runner was three times as popular as anything else in the race and as such, dominated the hold with 41 percent of the market.

The mare was the only one to hold six figures with TAB while the winner Saquon ($4.20-$5.50) got out thanks to the support for others including Travest ($9), Bowery Breeze ($10-$7) and Tympanist ($6.50).

BETS: Saquon $1,000 @ $5.50 MULTIPLE TIMES

RACE SEVEN

In a tremendous betting race, Sejardan landed the cash in a great finish to the Inglis Rural Property Golden Gift (1100 metres).

Gary Portelli’s youngster drifted from $3.90-$5 in the day but still went around with plenty riding on him. In fact, he held 27 percent of the total investment.

Shalatin ($4.40) held the most while Ojai ($8-$4.60-$5) was the second best tried in the race. Of the rest, Mount Brilliant ($16-$8) was a significant mover and halved its quote.

BETS: Sejardan $1,500 @ $5 TWICE, $2,200 @ $3.90

BETS: Shalatin $2,500 @ $4.60, $2,000 @ $4.60, $2,000 @ $4.40

BETS: Ojai $1,500 @ $5, $1,000 @ $5 MULTIPLE TIMES

BETS: Mount Brilliant $1,500 @ $10

BETS: Snitcat $1,000 @ $19

RACE EIGHT

Electric Girl was largely ignored in preference for a few of her opposition heading into the Hyland Race Colours Hot Danish Stakes (1400 metres).

The Team Hawkes galloper went $9-$12 on the day and attracted little interest when compared to Rocha Clock ($3.80-$3.60) and Nudge ($5.50-$4.60), with the former going around as one of the most popular conveyances all day.

Rocha Clock was responsible for 52 percent of the total investment.

Of the rest, Madam Rouge ($5.50-$4.80) tightened up throughout the day.

BETS: Electric Girl $2,000 @ $12

RACE NINE

Blaze A Trail upset the apple cart in the Bisley Workwear Handicap (1200 metres).

Although the Ciaron Maer & Dave Eustace runner had admirers and jumped at $3.70, most of the money was riding on Fox Fighter which had to settle for the runner-up spot.

Fox Fighter ($3.50-$2.80) went around with nearly three times as much money as anything else and was responsible for 41 percent of the market.

BETS: Blaze A Trail $5,000 e/w @ $3.70/$1.50

RACE TEN

Zoushack was a popular way for punters to round out the Rosehill card when it saluted in the Chandon Garden Spritz Handicap (1400 metres).

Backed from $4.20-$3.60, Zoushack was the second most popular runner and held slightly less than Blesk ($3.80-$4.20). The quinella pairing held 62 percent of the market between them.

Of the others, Francesco Guardi ($23-$15) was specked all day at the double figures while Suave ($5-$6) had admirers along with Bergen ($9.50-$10-$9).

BETS: Blesk $2,000 @ $4.20, $5,000 @ $4, $2,000 @ $4 MULTIPLE TIMES

FLEMINGTON

RACE ONE

Hosier was backed as if unbeatable in the opening race at Flemington but failed to beat home a rival in what was an unpalatable start for many Stakes Day punters. The son of Camelot was one of the most popular runners on the card, accounting for 68 percent of the money wagered on the opener, resulting in a tighten from a first price of $3 on Wednesday to jump $1.60. He was the first leg of many multis – including a $14,500 one that also included Nature Strip and Zaaki – plus bets including $12,200 at $1.65 and $8000 at $1.90 and some hefty place bets at short odds. Winner Our Playboy opened $8, touched $7.50 early but was easy on raceday and jumped an $11 chance.

BETS: Hosier $5000 at $2.50, $5000 at $2, $8000 at $1.90, $12,200 at $1.65, $5000 at $1.60, $10,000 TO PLACE at $1.14, $9900 TO PLACE at $1.12.

BETS: Equation $300x$2700 at $4.20/$1.50.

RACE TWO

Favourite backers bounced back in the second race at Flemington, albeit with an easy favourite in Warning. The 2019 Victoria Derby winner opened $2.70 on Wednesday and started $3.20. Dr Drill was the most significant shortener, starting $3.90 after going up $5 on Wednesday, but Lunar Flare ($4.80 to $3.90 back to $4.20) held the majority of money (28 percent), including a $10,000 bet at $4.60.

BETS: Warning $2000 at $3.20 THREE TIMES, $1700 at $3.20, $2000 at $3.10.

BETS: Lunar Flare $10,000 at $4.60.

RACE THREE

Alcyone was a ‘good thing’ beaten at the Caulfield carnival, but there was no repeat during Melbourne Cup Week and punters reaped the rewards with the Godolphin gelding landing a good move to win Race 3. A $3.60 chance in the opening market (which included 10c worth of deductions), Alcyone was heavily supported to start the $2 favourite. He got into $2.15 on race morning, eased slightly to $2.40 in the lead-up to the race before some spirited betting late, including a $6000 bet at $2.40 and $10,000 at $2, and at the jump accounted for exactly 50 percent of trade.

BETS: Alcyone $2000 at $3.30, $3000 at $2.50, $6000 at $2.40, $3000 at $2.40, $2500 at $2.25, $3000 at $2.20, $2500 at $2.20, $10,000 at $2, $3000 at $2, $2500 at $2.

***Multi: $14,500 on Alcyone/Nature Strip/Zaaki at $7.03 to return $101,935

RACE FOUR

There was no standout horse crunched in betting in Race 4 but punters nailed the race with the easy initial favourite finishing down the track and the trifecta filled by horses who all tightened in betting. Sydney visitor Bend The Knee scored, after being backed from $13 in to $9, edging out Port Louis, who was $7 out to $8 during the week but well-backed on raceday to start $5.50 favourite. Third placegetter Daily Bugle was one of the better-backed longshots in the race, hitting $23 after opening at $15 before firming late to start $11. Our Heidi did attract some hefty wagers – the biggest being $5000 each way at $6 and $2.40 – but was easy, drifting from a low of $4 to start $6.

An $11 chance in the initial market, she was the third most popular runner with 12 percent of the hold and started $9.50. Runner-up Our Intrigue was easy, $12 out to $18 as was third placegetter Starelle ($9 to $16). Zaaki accounted for 51 percent of the hold on the win market, but an astonishing 89 percent of all multi wins bets on the Mackinnon Stakes. Runner-up Cascadian was easy, drifting from $11 to start $23, while third placegetter Mo’unga had support from $9 to $6.50.
