FLEMINGTON

NEWMARKET HANDICAP

The market got it right in the Newmarket Handicap (1200 metres) with the popular favourite September Run drifting for most of the day.

Chris Waller’s top filly opened the day at $2.20 but went all the way out to $2.70 at the jump – her best price all week.

September Run was taken on by bookies despite holding over half the total investment.

Swat’s That ($7.50-$8), which opened $11 on Wednesday, was the next most popular horse but incredibly only held a tenth of the money that September Run did.

Imaging ($15-$8.50) was the most notable firmer.

Zoutori ($21-$19) had only had light specking compared to the favourites.

BETS: September Run $4,000 @ $2.70, $2,500 @ $2.70, $2,000 @ $2.70 MULTIPLE TIMES, $2,000 @ $2.40, $3,000 @ $2.30, $2,000 @ $2.30 MULTIPLE TIMES, $2,000 @ $2.20, $2,500 @ $2.10, $20,000 @ $2.15

AUSTRALIAN CUP

Homesman was a drifter on the day in the TAB Australian Cup (2000 metres) and was one of the least favoured runners in the race.

The seven-year-old went $16-$26 on the day and despite being extremely popular last time out, was generally unwanted here.

Most of the money here was riding on Fifty Stars ($4.40-$3.50), which went around nearly three times as popular as anything else. The Dabernig & Hayes runner held 30 percent of the total investment.

Defibrillate ($11) and Steel Prince ($12-$9.50) were the next best tried in front of Humidor ($16).

BETS: Homesman $2,500 @ $21

BETS: Fifty Stars $6,500 @ $3.80, $3,300 @ $3.70

RANDWICK

RANDWICK GUINEAS

Lion’s Roar didn’t have a great deal of admirers in the Group One Randwick Guineas (1600 metres).

The John O’Shea-trained runner only had light eachway support throughout the day and went $21-$23 as a result.

Most of the money here was riding on Aegon ($2.10-$2.60) which was taken on by bookies in a great result for TAB.

Aegon was five times as popular as any other runner in the feature.

Overall, the Kiwi was responsible for 52 percent of the market.

BETS: Lion’s Roar $500 e/w @ $26/$6

BETS: Aegon $2,500 @ $2.30, $1,000 @ $2.30 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,500 @ $2.15 MULTIPLE TIMES

CANTERBURY STAKES

Favourite backers were sent packing after the heavily tried Bivouac failed to place in the Canterbury Stakes (1300 metres).

Although drifting from $2.60-$3, Bivouac still went around with approximately half the market on his back.

Overall, the James Cummings-trained galloper was four times as popular as stablemate Savatiano which took out the race narrowly from rank outsider Mizzy ($71).

Savatiano ($4.20-$3.90) was easily the best tried outside the fav and landed some handy investments.

BETS: Savatiano $2,000 @ $4, $1,500 @ $4, $1,000 @ $4 MULTIPLE TIMES, $1,500 @ $3.90 TWICE, $1,000 @ $3.90 MULTIPLE TIMES

BETS: Bivouac $6,000 @ $3, $2,000 @ $3, $1,000 @ $3, $3,000 @ $2.90, $2,000 @ $2.90
