RACE ONE

Kiku was a costly commodity in the opening race of the day – the Schweppes Handicap (1300 metres).

Chris Waller’s rep held more than half the money on the race and was nearly four times as popular as anything else.

Going around as a $2.40 favourite, it held approximately nine times as much money as the winner, Oscar Zulu ($5.50) which was as much as $10 just minutes out from the jump.

RACE TWO

The popular Ellsberg did the right thing by punters by leading throughout in the Precise Air Handicap (1500 metres).

Going around with the bulk of investment, Ellsberg commanded 47 percent of the market and attracted strong money throughout the week.

Joliette ($5-$7.50) and Toscanini ($5-$4.60) filled the minors but never appeared to be threats to the winner.

BETS: Ellsberg $2,000 @ $2.90, $3,000 @ $2.80

BETS: Instant Attraction $4,500 @ $5

RACE THREE

In a very open edition of the TAB Highway Class 3 (1800 metres) it was Eva’s Deel which landed the money for her admirers.

The Kody Nestor-trained runner was the most popular runner in terms of money held and hovered around the $6.50 mark for most of the day.

Rumberella ($9-$6.50) was the second best tried runner outside the winner and firmed up throughout the afternoon. Of the others, All Over Magic ($12-$8) and Post Free ($11-$8-$9.50) were two of the notable movers.

RACE FOUR

Punters were keen on The Elanora for most of the afternoon.

Trained by Chris Waller and ridden by James McDonald, The Elanora ($3.50-$3.20-$3.30) was well supported throughout the day tow in the De Bortoli Wines Handicap (1800 metres).

The son of Redoute’s Choice was nearly four times as popular as Atlantic King ($4.80-$5.50-$5) which was the second most popular runner in terms of money held.

Of the others, Kukeracha ($12-$10) and Dhakuri ($8-$6) had their share of support and ran up to that backing by winding up in the placings.

RACE FIVE

Edison was one of the more popular runners on the day when it went around in the Iron Jack Handicap (1400 metres).

The Bjorn Baker runner started the day out as equal $3.40 favourite with Enchanted Heart, however, weight of money saw it bottom out at $2.60 before starting $2.90. On the other hand, Enchanted Heart jumped an equal second pick at $3.70 along with Bigboyroy.

Edison commanded the bulk of the money though and held over half the total investment on the race.

RACE SIX

Significance, which was a drifter for most of the day, was too strong in the SKY Racing Active Handicap (2000 metres).

Going from $5.50-$7 on the day, the Clare Cunningham-trained galloper was the fourth most popular runner in terms of money held but was responsible for a sixth of the investment that was riding on Accountability.

The favourite was crunched into $2.60 after being $2.90 in the morning and held nearly half the market.

Gone Bye ($3.80) attracted some decent money and ran up to the support while Accountability never seemed likely after settling midfield.

RACE SEVEN

The Members Christmas Handicap (1100 metres) was billed as a race in two according to the betting.

Pandemic ($3.80) and Hulk ($5-$3.80) went around as equal favourites with the pair dominating the betting ever since the markets opened on Wednesday.

Pandemic opened at $5 and bottomed out at $3.40 on Wednesday while the majority of the support for Hulk came closer to race time.

The pair commanded 55 percent of the total investment.

Albumin ($71-$41-$81) had specking throughout the afternoon and ran a cracking race to fill second spot behind Pandemic while Mo’s Crown ($9-$6) tumbled late in betting and held third after leading.

RACE EIGHT

The late money told the story in the Quincy Seltzer Handicap (1350 metres).

Vitesse went from $5.50 to $7 throughout the afternoon but 10 minutes out from the start, the money started to come for the Chris Waller runner which shortened dramatically into $4.80.

Leading throughout, Vitesse landed the money and gave James McDonald a winning treble on the day.

The big push all week was for Sausedge ($11 on Wednesday, $8.50-$4.80-$5) with the Matt Dale runner storming home to fill the minor end of the prize. Savigne ($9-$26) was a big drifter but ran right up to its looks from the yard.

RACE NINE

Surreal Step took out a wide open Rosehill Bowling Club Handicap (1200 metres).

Attracting good money throughout the day, Surreal Step ($6.50) was pretty solid in the betting and went around as the fourth most popular runner, however, there was very little separating it, Rammstein ($3.80-$4.80-$4.20) and Golly Im Lucky ($9.50-$8-$8.50).

Dunbrody Power ($4.20) was the most popular runner in terms of money held.

RACE ONE

Favourite backers had little to worry about with Written Miss a convincing winner.

Written Miss was well backed from Wednesday when $8 was posted before scratchings.

Written Miss was supported on raceday from $2.60 to $2 (touched $1.95). Written Miss accounted for half of the TAB Fixed Odds win hold on the opening race.

Veranskova ($4.40 to $5) and Miss Divine Em ($5 to $7.50) were the minor placegetters.

BETS: Written Miss $3,000 @ $2.40, $3,795 @ $2.10, $2,200 @ $2

BETS: Veranskova $2,000 @ $5

RACE TWO

Second elect Defiant Dancer proved far too strong in the second race at Pakenham..

Defiant Dancer was solid on raceday around the $4.80-$5 mark (closed $5).

Unplaced favourite Meteorite eased slightly late from $2.30 to $2.50.

Meteorite received just over half of the money placed on the win with TAB Fixed Odds.

Runner-up That Girl received late specking ($8.50 to $7.50).

Pariano ($6 to $9 on raceday) finished third

RACE THREE

The late support for Zachaz was justified with the gelding claim his fifth win from 13 starts.

Zachaz was $4.60 on raceday morning and tightened late from $4.20 to $3.80 favourite.

Second elect Humble Pie drifted from $4.60 to $5.50 and finished fourth.

The late specking for Starcaster (closed $7) did not prove to be fruitful.

Milestone ($13 to $18) and Nerve Not Verve ($8.50 to 11) filled the minor placings.

BETS: Starcaster $2,000 @ $7.50, $1,500 e/w @ $7/$2.50, $1,000 @ $7.50

RACE FOUR

In a close finish, Serengeti nosed out Astraeus with Starouz not far behind in third.

Despite consecutive wins, Serengeti was easy on raceday from as short as $11 to $13.

Astraeus was the marginal favourite hovering around $5-$5.50 before closing $5.50.

Stuchbree Stamp ($5 to $6) and Capodanno ($6 to $8) were also drifters.

The unplaced Not Mine was specked late from as much as $13 to $10.

Third placegetter Starouz drifted on raceday from as short as $14 to $18.

Tavidance easily outclassed his rivals in the David Bourke Memorial Handicap.

Tavidance opened $3.10 on Wednesday and eventually closed the $2.20 favourite.

Half of the money placed on the win with TAB Fixed Odds was on Tavidance.

On raceday, Tavidance firmed from $2.50 to as short as $1.95 before the late ease.

Two $5000 bets at $2.20 were placed on Tavidance.

One bet of $4000 at $5.50 was wagered on the unplaced All Too Huiying (closed $5.50).

Night’s Watch ($12 to $17) and Safin ($34 to $51 to $41) were the minor placegetters.

RACE SIX

Sirius Suspect defied the late drift to career away with the first leg of the quaddie.

Sirius Suspect was $3.50 favourite once scratchings were confirmed and eased to $5.

Hi Stranger was well fancied on raceday from $4.40 to $3.50 favourite.

Unfortunately for favourite backers, Hi Stranger finished third.

Bets of note on Hi Stranger included $5000 at $3.80 and $3000 at $3.50.

William Thomas ($7.50) and Enigman ($11 to $8.50) were unplaced. Tavisan ($7.50 to $13 on raceday) was the runner-up.

The heavily backed Attorney did not let favourite punters down in the Pakenham Cup.

Attorney was $4.60 at 8am on raceday and eventually closed $3.30 favourite.

One wager of $10,000 at $3.40 was placed on Attorney late in betting.

Runner-up Creedence drifted on raceday from $5.50 to $9.

Third placegetter Knights Order hovered around the $5-$5.50 mark (closed $5.50).

The unplaced Scarlet Dream was $7.50 to as short as $5.50 before closing $6.

Princess Jenni – also unplaced – blew from $5.50 to $9 (was $4.80 on Friday)

One bet of $15,000 at $9 on Princess Jenni did not pay dividends.

BETS: Attorney $2,000 @ $3.60, $2,000 @ $3.50, $10,000 @ $3.40, $2,000 @ $3.40 TWICE, $2,000 @ $3.30

RACE EIGHT

Favourite punters breathed a sigh of relief when The Astrologist bobbed at the right time.

The Astrologist received 55 percent of the win hold for the VOBIS Gold Bullion.

The Astrologist opened $3 on Wednesday and closed $2.40 favourite (touched $2.30).

Bets on The Astrologist included $5000 and $4100 at $2.40 and $7500 at $2.30.

The unplaced Ocular was supported on raceday from as much as $7.50 to $4.60. Runner-up Wild Vixen eased on raceday from $6 to as much as $8 (closed $7.50). One TAB customer did place $2000 at $8 on Wild Vixen. Third placegetter Galaxy Raider was as short as $7.50 before closing $9.

Metronome was specked throughout the entire day and landed some nice investments in the final event on the program.

Going $9-$10 on the day, Metronome held off the fast-finishing Shahzade ($19-$23-$18) and the popular Lunakorn ($6.50).

The big push all day here was for Score ($7-$4.60-$5) with the support coming as early as 9am. Stay Gold ($8.50-$7.50-$8) was the third most popular runner in the race.
