A cracking field has been assembled for the Golden Rose (1400m) this Saturday at Rosehill in what is fast becoming a leading stallion making race.
Down below is a speed map, runner preview and $100 betting strategy for the 2024 Golden Rose.
2024 Golden Rose Speed Map
GaiBott have a strong hand here with Mayfair, Anode and Storm Boy. They look like they will control the speed, with a fly in the ointment, potentially, being Traffic Warden, who can go forward and potentially gets a good cart across if given an early squeeze.
2024 Golden Rose Runner Preview:
1. Broadsiding: Trials and work are one thing, but how can you watch what Broadsiding has done leading into this and say he’s not come back in beast mode? He has savaged the line in the trials, his recent piece of work between races was sparkling, he looks to have returned bigger and better and towards the end of last season, he was dominant…the knock being he was dominant against not much vs what he faces here, but potentially, what he faces here, outside Traffic Warden and Linebacker, hasn’t improved too much. He looks the one to beat, clearly.
2. Traffic Warden: Traffic Warden is the only horse from The Run To The Rose I have interest in and I think if Melham gives him a squeeze, he can get a beaut run in transit near the speed. His win was spectacular and yes, the race was set up for him, but keep in mind he was first up, so he does have upside/improvement to come and up to 1400m, I think he’ll only run well and be the Godolphin runner for The Everest.
3. Storm Boy: I still have my doubts on him at 1400m with his racing style, but gee the map looks kind for me. Anode comes over and will drag Storm Boy with him. On face value, poor ride behind Traffic Warden, but he didn’t exactly go silly hard in front. I also do think if this track does cop the rain and gets genuinely soft, that takes away his speed. I still feel he’s way unders.
4. Linebacker: I haven’t done it myself, but I can only imagine running with a hard on would be rather difficult. He wants to show the world he is a man and despite that, he is running some very strong races. I think Broadsiding is the one here and for the Caulfield Guineas but this guy has the talent. Just needs to behave himself.
5. Anode: He had a good run in transit first up and was there to win but found one better in Traffic Warden. He will get the easy run across from the gate I say, potentially from Traffic Warden. I just think he is a level below these.
6. Fearless: He paraded quite big in condition and ran accordingly behind Traffic Warden, but wasn’t too bad in defeat. He is the one with good upside re condition and maps to do no work in the run. I doubt he wins, but he’s a first four threat and IMO is overs.
7. Mayfair: Genuine animal, honest animal and does try hard…just not sure he has the class to measure up.
8. Emirate: He’s dangerous at a price. He resumed behind Traffic Warden where he just got too far back in the run but really like the way he finished his race off. Waller goes with him as a sole rep in the race, gets a jockey upgrade and maps to get a much better run in transit.
9. Tropicus: Tropicus has the engine under the hood to run top four. He was a real eye catcher fresh in the San Domenico before going behind Traffic Warden where he got back to near last and while he was never a winning threat, he kept finding the line in a really good effort. Can run top four for sure.
10. Clear Proof: Too bad to be true in the Ming Dynasty but not sure he is good enough to threaten.
11. Daggers: Scratched
